might be php related i think... if you type php -v do you get a segfault? for me it was the recode.so extension in extensions.ini that i had to put up top try moving session to the top...changing the order of php extensions loading perhaps?

if you want to change the config youd just issue a make deinstall then make config, change it, then make reinstall clean should take care of it...make sure to backup any config files before the deinstall..just in case
