Do you mean you just straight up formatted the iPod, or did you use iTunes to format the iPod.
I struggled for a while with my iPod and mounting before I realized that when you use iTunes to format the device, it will actually create two partitions, and the partition you're going to mount...
*UPDATE: 1 year later*
Well, it's been a year and I've survived with only FreeBSD. I've gone from a total noob, to a slightly less total noob :p
I've become fairly comfortable navigating the system. I've spent lots of time installing/upgrading programs (I love using the ports system)...
Setting the packagesite fixed the issue.
Thanks for the help. Out of curiosity, was this information posted somewhere that I should have checked first?
I didn't know an easy way to post the output of dmesg, so I just stitched together a few screenshots:

To be more specific, the virtual network device in FreeBSD gets an IP address of 10.0.2.15, and when you do something like ping a...
I'm trying to get FreeBSD 9-RC2 running in VirtualBox and during the install (using the net install iso), I am able to get a network connection and the install works.
After rebooting and loading up the newly installed system, I am unable to get a network connection.
The system...
Did you install the driver through ports or did you just download the driver from the nVidia website?
You likely need to add:
Driver "nvidia"
to the "Device" section of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
Mine looks like this after using the driver from ports:
Section "Device"
Identifier...
The script seems to work quite well. Many thanks!
One thing I've noticed (in openbox at least) is that if the device is connected when the system boots, the openbox menu just shows "No devices". If you unplug the device and plug it back in, the device is shown in the menu.
There is nothing...
I've been interested in trying out cairo-compmgr too. I just found this site: http://ftp1.fr.freebsd.org/pub/frugalware/frugalware-current/source/x11-extra/cairo-compmgr. I downloaded the source and applied the two patches.
The autogen.sh file craps out:

What kind of CPU/GPU are you using in this computer? Since you say the system was hard locking, the first thing that came to mind was that with 5 HD's perhaps the computer just isn't getting enough power from the PSU.
With regards to the head parking on the Green drives, I use a 2TB version of...
I haven't used Gnome in a while, but I believe you would want this in your .xinitrc
ck-launch-session gnome-session
In your /etc/rc.conf you want:
slim_enable="YES"
In your /etc/rc.conf you DO NOT want:
gnome_enable="YES"
After updating my ports tree, those were the only three that were out of date, so I just opened up a new terminal window (urxvt) and typed portupgrade -a
I'm updating Libreoffice, Firefox, and Thunderbird right now and it takes a LONG time to compile all of them. Unfortunately, when they are building, my system becomes somewhat unresponsive.
Is it possible to limit CPU usage when building a port?
I really wasn't trying to get at anything, I had a bit of a bad night last night and I can see that it came out in my post.
I've never had any particular issue seeing my mouse, and didn't really think that everyone has a different setup. I can see how the feature could be useful to others...
Out of sheer curiosity (thinking "Why would anyone want to use a tiling window manager?!? It just seems terrible!") I decided to try out xmonad today.
I still can't say why, but after about 15 minutes I fell in love with it!
I've spent a good part of the day trying to figure out a bunch of...
I installed rubyripper from ports, but when I try to run the program I get the message
% rrip_gtk2
The main program logic file 'rr_lib.rb' can't be found!
Has anyone encountered this before?
I didn't even think about that :P Definitely easier to just use ethernet (assuming there is a port available).
I've never actually connected a cable modem over USB. Assuming it's connected to a USB1 port, you should be able to get about 1.4 MB/s right?
I'm going to assume that you're using a custom kernel if that's all there is in /boot/kernel.
I believe you need to rebuild the kernel with these options (copied from /usr/src/sys/amd64/conf/GENERIC in my case):
device miibus # MII bus support
device cdce # Generic...
I'm trying to get UHIDD working so I can use the multimedia keys on my keyboard (Wireless Desktop 3000).
I compiled a new kernel without uhid/ukbd/ums so that I could load and unload uhid/ukbd/ums, but for some reason as soon as I unload the drivers, they just automatically load up again...
When I was first starting out with FreeBSD, I was using -RELEASE and noticed that if I would add packages and later use ports, I would get all kinds of error messages about certain ports or packages requiring certain versions of things and it just seemed to be a nightmare and I switched to using...
