    Macbook PRO installer freeze

FreeBSD 9.0-RC2 doesn't hang and installs now, however, I'm not entirely sure how to get it working. When creating the the partitions, it seems FreeBSD is being made to work with MBR, and GUID as well as a few others. I installed with the GPT partitions, which forced a 64k freebsd-boot partition...

    Mutt / SMTP

In your muttrc the first @ in the smtp_url has to be passed as a url escape sequence. So, your smtp_url declaration would be: set smtp_url='smtps://tst%40maelenn.org@eyes.maelenn.org:587' Though, I haven't tried the escape personally, I guess I could check it, but my solution comes from the...

    Set mac address via ioctl(3)

I was actually trying to do the same thing myself. Well, I don't need to change it, however, I would like to read the mac address. socket works with descriptors and protocols. For the basic SIOCGIFADDR and the like, you utilize PF_INET as your first argument. The mac address is at the link...

    Useful scripts

Haha.. I knew there was probably a tool for this, I just didn't put in the legwork to try and find it... Really, I was just looking for an excuse to get my hands dirty with a shell script.. I know some C/C++ and and have a little experience with some other languages. I'm just now starting to...

    Useful scripts

I've been reading up on scripting with the bourne shell... I mashed face agains the wall for a few hours putting together a script to check latency on FreeBSD cvsup servers for fetching/updating ports. #!/bin/sh #start with cvsup1.freebsd.org server=1 #intended to error check at the end...

    FreeBSDbook

@tingo I checked out iX also made an inquiry about a laptop through their custom quote. A representative got back to me within a couple of hours. However, he informed me that they are currently testing new hardware for their next line of laptops and don't currently offer the old model. He...

    FreeBSDbook

So... I guess I mis-spoke... I found this: http://www.chromium.org/chromium-os/developer-information-for-chrome-os-devices/samsung-series-5-chromebook Which could be exactly what I'm looking for, however, I'm uncertain at this point if it accepts any OS or only modified ChromeOs images...

    FreeBSDbook

I just spent a few hours combing eBay for overpriced Powerbook G4's. About 90% were selling without hdd, caddy, ac-adapter, ram, etc... Useless... I then turned my attention to net-books, looking for inexpensive and slim alternatives to the Macbook Air... Unsatisfied with any options I...

HOWTO: Modern FreeBSD Install RELOADED (vermaden way)

@vand777 I had a similar problem when I first tried this method. How are your disks set up? I'm going to assume that you have something like a CF for / and /usr and everything else is on the zfs pool. If this is the case, then you need to mount any pools specifically in the the path of UFS...

take nvidia gpu temp on conky

Hah, true... I was just sitting down and finally working out a .conkyrc and was trying to get all my commands into it by one liners without having external scripts is all. Just thought I would share, in case anyone else was looking for the same thing ;)

take nvidia gpu temp on conky

I just spent a few minutes reading nvidia-settings --help and found that nvidia-settings -t -q localhost:0/gpucoretemp returns just the value, rather than having to run a script.

Wow.. I didn't even have any zfs declarations in my fstab.. thanks a million, makes a lot more sense now.

HOWTO: Modern FreeBSD Install RELOADED (vermaden way)

I figured it out.. conflicting mounts. the UFS /var/db/pkg in /etc/fstab creates a problem because it tries to mount before the zfs pool. Var doesn't exist yet and results in an error and boots to single user mode. I removed the entry from fstab and everything booted and mounted normally. Now my...

HOWTO: Modern FreeBSD Install RELOADED (vermaden way)

@vermaden Hello again, it has been a while. I recently acquired an intel machine a compact flash drive and a sata hdd. I was following your recent post pertaining to that sort of setup, however I am having difficulty with the zfs pool being persistent through a reboot. After a reboot only...

    Macbook PRO installer freeze

Has anyone found a suitable solution for this? I also have a Macbook Pro 5, 1 and have the same problem as the OP. I've also looked at the references to revert back to whatever revision. I also don't understand what I should do with it.
