Hosed system with ldconfig, how to recover?

Thanks for the advice. I ended up getting it working by copying the linker hints file from the live CD into the server, which was then able to boot and then fixed itself during boot via the ldconfig rc.d script (/etc/rc.d/ldconfig start). Everything seems to be chugging along again just fine...

Hosed system with ldconfig, how to recover?

I do know what I did wrong with ldconfig, I should have read the man page closer. I missed the -m option, to merge in new entries. Too bad I panicked afterwards. Should have known better, restarts fix problems in Windows, not Unix. Dumb. Downloading the rescue CD now, what do I need to run to...

Hosed system with ldconfig, how to recover?

I really did it this time. I have been trying to upgrade all my ports, and for whatever reason, libpng would not install- it was failing the tests during the build. I went into the work folder, and tried running ./pngtest directly, and it was complaining that libz.so.4 was not found. Hmm. I...

UPnP inside jail does not work, fine outside

I just tried your advice. ifconfig inside the jail reported originally an IP of 192.168.13.35/32, with a broadcast address of 192.168.13.35. I reconfigured it in the host machine rc.conf to ifconfig_em0_alias4="inet 192.168.13.35/24 broadcast 192.168.13.255 After trying a few variations of...

Possible to use freebsd-update to update Jails?

    All I have in the base server's /etc/make.conf is this: # added by use.perl 2010-08-01 21:38:00 PERL_VERSION=5.8.9

Possible to use freebsd-update to update Jails?

Sure. I just used the one from the examples folder and modified it to the cvsup10 mirror, although I can't remember if there was a hard and fast reason for that choice. # $FreeBSD: src/share/examples/cvsup/standard-supfile,v 1.25.4.2.2.2 2009/11/09 23:57:40 kensmith Exp $ # # This file...

Possible to use freebsd-update to update Jails?

Thanks for the tips on Mergemaster, hitting install a million times was indeed the issue. I had googled this before posting but had not found your post, sounds like it might work! My source is definately not compiling. I just did another cvsup on the main box, not trying to build in a jail...

    Sharing Ports Directory with Jails

You're absolutely right! I did that thinking I'd need it writable, but changing the work dirs is much better. Edit: Looked into this. During the inital jail setup, I setup a place to build the ports in the read-write section of the jail, by adding a prefix to /etc/make.conf, as per the...

Possible to use freebsd-update to update Jails?

I have a box with jails setup as per the handbook, with a read-only section shared by multiple jails. Updates are kind of a pain in the butt, since I have to sync the source tree with cvsup, buildworld, installworld, and then run mergemaster in each jail. It takes a long time, and I have to date...

    Sharing Ports Directory with Jails

I have a bunch of service jails installed on a FreeBSD 8.1 box, installed as per the handbook. I use portupgrade to manage both the base server and all the jails. I thought it would be a good idea to save space and unnecessary re-indexing by sharing the Ports collection of the base server with...

pam_ldap unable to log in via ssh (FreeBSD 8.0 / OpenLDAP)

I figured out my problem, maybe this will help you. It wasn't in the pam_ldap configuration at all. I turned on debugging in /usr/local/etc/ldap.conf, and saw tons of entries like this: Aug 4 20:55:00 login cron[29356]: NSSWITCH(_nsdispatch): ldap, group, endgrent, not found, and no fallback...

Unabled to Build Ruby After Update to 8.1

I thought that it was kind of odd to have a seperate copy of the ports tree just for the jails, but that's how the handbook said to do it. I was thinking of doing just what you said; using a nullfs mount of the main ports tree for the jails, but I thought there must be a reason that it wasn't...

Unabled to Build Ruby After Update to 8.1

So, what I ended up doing here is building the package on my host machine, and moving the tarball into the jail's ports directory, and installing from there. That makes portupgrade work again. Still having some major issues with this upgrade... turned into a 3 day ordeal and still going.

pam_ldap unable to log in via ssh (FreeBSD 8.0 / OpenLDAP)

I'm having a similar problem... I had pam_ldap working very well until I upgraded from 7.2 to 8.0, and now I am unable to login. Nothing has changed, all the passwords are the same, and I can bind with all the credentials using Apache Directory Studio. Now I get this: Aug 3 16:52:40 login...

Unabled to Build Ruby After Update to 8.1

I just managed to update to FreeBSD 8.1 via a combination of freebsd-update and build/installworld. On my core machine, everything is great. However, it hosts a number of jails, configured as per the handbook (http://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/jails-application.html), and updating them has...

Unable to make buildworld: undefined reference to `arc4random_uniform'

I did managed to get Buildworld to work, after I did an upgrade via freebsd-update from 8.0 to 8.1 It must have caught whatever was screwed up. Thanks for your time... now I'm trying to upgrade the jails again and running into problems. I'm going to post a new thread about that.

Unable to make buildworld: undefined reference to `arc4random_uniform'

I just upgraded to FreeBSD 8 from 7.2, and things went basically smoothly. I ran freebsd-update; I'm currently rebuilding all the installed ports with portupgrade -af, things are going well. However, I have several service jails on this machine, configured according to the handbook...

UPnP inside jail does not work, fine outside

I had another thread with related questions here, but now that I've narrowed down the problem I think another thread with a better title is in order. I've been on a quest to get a UPnP server working on my FreeBSD box. I'm using service jails, setup as per the Handbook, for everything on the...

UPnP Setup- ifconfig allmulti Crashes Network

So, turns out ushare, and probably MediaTomb, work great on the box- but not from inside the jail. I went ahead and bit the bullet and installed ushare on the base server, and it works great. Damn! I hate when things work... OK, all kidding aside, the problem seems to be running the UPnP...

UPnP Setup- ifconfig allmulti Crashes Network

I'll give ushare a shot- if I can at least get a UPnP client to recognize the server with it it would be a huge advancement. Thanks for help so far!
