That problem must be specific to you. I followed the instructions in /usr/ports/UPDATING exactly and had no problems. Deinstalled apache22 using pkg_delete, ran portmaster -o devel/apr1 devel/apr then did portmaster www/apache22, and everything worked flawlessly. Downtime around 10 minutes for...
I hit something similar when I rebuilt my workstation. What worked for me was to enable/start hal and dbus. Everything seemed to work then. As a disclaimer, however, I don't use a graphical login manager (like KDM/GDM). I don't know about KDM, but I'm pretty sure GDM starts hal/dbus when it...
Hi Phil,
Please, don't take me as being combative or anything, that is not my intent.
I have a production server I manage with FreeBSD (right now 7.1, but we're evaluating an upgrade path to 7.3 before January when 7.1 loses security support). 3rd party apps are built/installed from ports...
I certainly can understand the sentiment by those who don't wish to wait while their ports compile. Heck, I'm not even brave enough to attempt an OpenOffice.org build again. But we don't have to get into that right now.
Personally, I'm quite fond of the ports system. While I have a certain...
My simple screenshot
This is mine. Pretty simple. Openbox + tint2. Can't recall where I got the wallpaper, but everybody likes looking at a tropical paradise.

Is sshd enabled?
In /etc/rc.conf:
sshd_enable="YES"
Is sshd started?
/etc/rc.d/sshd status
That should return the PID that sshd is running as.
Try sockstat -l4 (that's a lower-case "L") and you should see sshd listening on port 22.
Report back your results.
This may seem silly, but...
Did you put apache in your /etc/rc.conf file? For example, mine says:
apache22_enable="YES"
Yours may be different... but apache will not start without that line.
Edit: Apologies, I totally ignored 'User23's post right above mine.
Run portsnap the first time as:
portsnap fetch extract
Then each subsequent time as:
portsnap fetch update
Can you post a bit more specific error message?
1. Go with the sk0 interface.
2. If you don't know what IPv6 is, then answer no. There's a 99.9% chance you're not using it.
3. DHCP - probably. Host and domain you can make anything. I don't think it'll harm anything to leave the domain blank. Hostname just make up a name for your computer...
You could always ask the host if they'd be willing to support mod_django. Sometimes if it's a smaller operation they won't mind bending a bit in areas like this. Especially if it could be of benefit to many users and could attract potential customers.
Use it and abuse it. The script is run via the system crontab (/etc/crontab) every night at midnight on my system.
Also I forgot to mention... the 'chown backups:backups' may need to be modified, unless you want to add a user and group called 'backups' to your system. Otherwise, you can chown...
This is what I use on my system:
#!/bin/sh

For web software such as this, I prefer to install it separately of the ports system. Just an old habit of mine I guess (on the flip side, I only install perl modules through ports).
You could do that, which in turn would require absolutely no root access.
What about http://www.realsoftware.com/realbasic/?
Granted, it's basic... but still.
Borland also used to put out a product called Kylix, which was Delphi for Linux (it appears Borland has changed substantially since I've last used their products, some 12 years ago).
