How to integrate /etc/installscript to ISO

Yours can be one of the correct solutions (as always there are several ways to do something in Unix). What I usually do is to place everything that is custom into the local directory/package within the ISO (of course in this case the makefiles are modified accordingly). Anyways for details...

I have just installed LibreOffice the other day from ports without any problems. Though I do not know which version it was.

It is official now. The ISOs seem to have not been changed since they first appeared.

    9.1-RELEASE is available on FTP

My only problem was that bsdinstall reported src.txz to have a wrong checksum though the image file FreeBSD-9.1-RELEASE-amd64-memstick.img itself was with the expected checksum. Should this be reported somewhere? I downloaded the image from the Slovenian mirror site.

    9.1-RELEASE is available on FTP

9.1-RELEASE seems to be available on the FTP sites. I am just downloading it from ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/ISO-IMAGES/9.1/.

    Using VirtualBox

Yes. For example I run a Windows Vista guest on my FreeBSD 9.0-RELEASE host to use Windows-only applications. It is simple. I set it up according to the description here: http://wiki.freebsd.org/VirtualBox. There are some minor problems though I cannot adjust sound in the guest for example.

    FS labels transposed

Sure. I suspect bsdinstall and sysinstall interference but I can not prove. That is why I am trying to ask your kind help to discover the reason.

    FS labels transposed

A few days ago I ran into the following message when booting up my FreeBSD 9.0-RELEASE laptop: ** /dev/ada0s3b Cannot find file system superblock ioctl (GCINFO): Inappropriate ioctl for device fsck_ufs: /dev/ada0s3b: can't read disk label It reported that this is my /usr/home partition. I tried...

    perl filehandles question

If you are not on a rather old version of Perl then you may simply use a my (local) variable as a file handle (instead that old-school FH handle and typeglobbing). This can also easily be passed as an argument: #!/usr/bin/perl use strict; sub proc_file { my $handle = shift...

    Fingerprint reader

I have an AuthenTec AES1610 fingerprint reader installed in my laptop that is listed as a known product according to /usr/src/sys/dev/usb/usbdevs. My question would be: how could I use this device? My system is: freebsd90# uname -a FreeBSD freebsd90 9.0-RELEASE FreeBSD 9.0-RELEASE #1: Fri...

    Adding user to wheel

Adding someone to wheel does not mean root privileges. This is just a group (that is the owner group of lots of files and directories). It still depends on the permissions of the file in question if a member of wheel can open it or not. Example: My user is member of wheel but is not able to...

    syslog quota events

We have a FreeBSD 8.3-RELEASE server configured to use quotas with UFS. Everything works fine except that there is no message when the user's quota is exceeded. Is there a way to configure the system to emit some messages to syslog when quota related events happen? I can see that there are...

    Interrupt storm detected

No, but they might have better support of your hardware. As it was in my case: 8.1-RELEASE had no support at all of my NIC. 9.0-RELEASE works with no problem.

Once I tried and it resulted a panic on my system as well. So I forgot about it. I do not even understand what this safe mode is good for (I know: it disables a lot of things).

    Console screen

My gess is that already running terminals will display according to the old configuration, so they need a restart. I think an escape to single user mode and come back to multiuser would be enough (this is faster than a reboot but take care: network connections are lost, users are thrown out)...
