C How to use opencrypto in userspace?, documentation looks like suggesting errors.

The first compilation error you listed is because it has failed to find the definition of struct crypto_session_params. If you read /usr/include/crypto/cryptodev.h carefully you will find that structure is also defined (at line 332) within a #ifdef _KERNEL conditional block. The start of the...

C How to use opencrypto in userspace?, documentation looks like suggesting errors.

    If you read the file well, it starts with: #ifndef _CRYPTO_CRYPTO_H_ #define _CRYPTO_CRYPTO_H_ #include <sys/ioccom.h> #ifdef _KERNEL #include <opencrypto/_cryptodev.h> #include <sys/_task.h> #include <sys/libkern.h> #include <sys/time.h> #endif As you see the ifdef clearly terminates in 5...

Wayland session freezes when using Ctrl+Alt to switch to another terminal

I found some suggestion to try bypassing sddm and running plasma from tty, but when I executed startplasma-wayland I got a message: "startplasmacompositor could not start d-bus, can you call qdbus?"(I confirmed dbus is running). Then running dbus-run-session startplasma-wayland gave me a desktop...

Musings of a noob as I migrate from Windows to FreeBSD in my homelab

Service deployment update: I burned down my CA and started over Or: what a 2015 guide doesn’t know about 2026 browsers Much earlier in my setup journey log, I described how I implemented root and intermediate CAs, built by following JamieLinux’s very well-written OpenSSL CA guide. I stand by...

C How to use opencrypto in userspace?, documentation looks like suggesting errors.

Pasting your code sample into test.c and then compiling it with $ cc -c -I /usr/src/sys -D_KERNEL test.c gets a bit further, but then barfs on another missing include file, but clearly I am not using the full list of arguments required, that remains to be discovered. Need to have a good read...

Running a GPU-accelerated LLM on FreeBSD (2-line howto)

I have to correct my suboptimal advice here. Forget about searx-ng. I compiled OpenSERP yesterday from its official repo: https://github.com/karust/openserp - the build went straightforward, and it turned out it is a much more capable LLM web search provider than searx-ng. You only need to pass...

snd_envy24ht: Kernel page fault in envy24ht_r16sl() on FreeBSD 15.1-RELEASE-p6

On October 23, 2026, my FreeBSD 15.1-RELEASE-p6 system experienced an unexpected kernel panic and automatic reboot shortly after logging into KDE Plasma Wayland. Immediately after logging in through SDDM, the screen turned black with only the mouse pointer visible. The system then restarted...

    Nvidia 595.99.02 is better !

I fixed this as I put in the other thread I had started, it *probably* was a reinstall of, after properly deleting x11/xkeyboard-config, [ and its dependencies ] but may have included two other appurtenant actions. AANNDD falkon works usably again, on the upgraded GeForce with the latest default...

    Headphone jack not recognized?

That's what I meant. kldload (what i used to check) groups together "currently loaded" and "in the kernel". I'm not loading either snd_hda or snd_driver through /boot/loader.conf. Apologies for the confusion. /boot/device.hints: hint.hdac.0.cad0.nid22.config="as=1 seq=15 device=headphones"...

Folks: Let's get Claude Code native installer working for FreeBSD

Update: script v3 — fix for hosts running a FreeBSD kernel older than 13.1 A new issue turned up on a jail whose host runs 13.0 (jail userland 13.5). Claude Code started, but refused every file access. Bash failed with task output swap refused (tasks dir moved or linked), and Read/Grep...

In the new package-base world, what replaces freebsd-update IDS?

Have to get back on this, pkg-check really only checks meta data, dependency chains, that sort of thing. What you really want to know is, does /usr/bin/something on disk match with the executable that came from the package that installed it. In other words, is it still the same file, i.e. not...

Folks: Let's get Claude Code native installer working for FreeBSD

Hi all, Since 2.1.282, Claude Code under the Linuxulator hangs after a few prompts or minutes (GitHub #96931, #102110). The cause is a Linuxulator bug: epoll_pwait2 with a sigmask leaves a stale signal mask, and Bun/JSC’s SIGPWR GC handshake deadlocks (PR 298878). The fix is in main and...

Solved How to grow .img and the zfs pool inside for a bhyve VM?

That's rather unfortunate. As long as whatever data you need is still there, you at least have the plan B of mounting the image file and transferring it to a new one. I will often times mount these read only on the main system as a means of back up, when I don't need the entire system backed up.
