I tested MATE with XLibre + seatd and it works!

Rob Pike has had it with the AI tech companies/bros….

Why is he so angry? What was his "minor role" in enabling this assault? Creating Golang & UTF-8 certainly wasn't.

    Old hardware porn

This beauty is a Sun Ultra 5. It's in a friend's garage in Venezuela. It looks a little worn out on the outside but it's absolutely gorgeous inside!

Do you use FreeBSD on metal as your daily driver? Which version? What DE or WM do you use? Do you run any other OS alongside or virtually?

It brings back very nice memories of the Sun Ultra 45 workstations we had at the university. Those UltraSPARC were 64-bits and it took some time for Linux to catch up in this particular area. CDE was the peak GUI experience for me and the color palette is very nice. I have to allocate some...

Do you use FreeBSD on metal as your daily driver? Which version? What DE or WM do you use? Do you run any other OS alongside or virtually?

I multiboot FreeBSD/NetBSD/OpenBSD on an old laptop. I use MATE on FreeBSD. (I recently tried CDE with XLibre and it blew my mind). I also use FreeBSD on a NAS. Virtualization only for experimenting and playing with the kernel. Linux is what brings food to the table so it's my daily driver...

People have forgotten what "audio quality" is

This is all discussed extensively in the Steve Hoffman forum. He did the DCC Gold remasters of The Doors discography and others.

Your choice of cell phone OS

I didn't want to buy Chinese or American, so I opted for South Korean. Not that it would change anything, but still.

Your choice of cell phone OS

Wish to try something on my old Samsung S21. Too bad GrapheneOS supports only Google hardware. Will they de-Google on this front?

People have forgotten what "audio quality" is

I remember pretty well when people were telling that 96kbps MP3's were indistinguishable from the real thing and citing double-blind "studies". Then they moved to 128kbps and continued saying the same thing. They increased it later to VBR & 320kbps. I can distinguish between 320kbps MP3 &...

Firefox to go full AI with new CEO

I also have this rule and that's why I'm proud of having removed the last bit of Reiserfs from FreeBSD. But in the case of Ladybird I think the person in question has been the target of character assassination and we should avoid perpetuating it. Wrt Firefox, I think the whole thing it's being...

I use them for: - Wild prototyping. - Skeleton of test cases. - Interpreting the output of smartctl lol.

Other porting linux MD raid to BSD

NetBSD did it with LVM. Shouldn't be hard to adapt to FreeBSD.
