The chips having AES extensions is what makes all the difference with OpenVPN + DCO.

GMKTek Mini PC with Intel N97

Using a 12C/14T processor for a 8 port firewall mini PC is a bit excessive, IMO. I have 2 Intel GMKTec's. They're indeed nice. But I needed a better excuse for spending on yet another mini PC so I chose AMD lol.

GMKTek Mini PC with Intel N97

This device will be used for experiments only. A Raspberry Pi with 16GB (plus case and SSD) costs 3x and this AMD box is 4x faster. It also has 2 2.5G Ethernet ports.

GMKTek Mini PC with Intel N97

The G11 arrived. Installed FreeBSD & NetBSD 11 on it. Had to install FreeBSD 16 because it has the rge driver for RTL8125BG. Only the MediaTek MT7921 ain't working yet.

About using git to install ports.

Can you provide an example of such port? All git forges support tarballs anyway and the .git directory contains compressed blobs.

About using git to install ports.

This. And both can have compress=off set as they contain compressed files.

Will FreeBSD adopt a No-AI policy or such?

Every tech has its pros and cons. We can't highlight only the negative aspects. LLMs aren't special. Lots of people with no programming background are happy that they can make stuff they couldn't do before. We must also see the positive aspects.

Will FreeBSD adopt a No-AI policy or such?

Ideally it should be we, the people. At least there's some consensus in that LLM output can't be copyrightable. That's why thorough human review is important. I myself don't believe in software patents, not so much because algorithms are math as Knuth said, but because they're a...

    Slop Free Software

I think I know a thing or two about McCarthyism because of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tascón_List It starts with shaming projects and eventually shaming also developers. Do you know about the Unabomber? There are lots of crazies out there.

    Slop Free Software

With the hyperbole and inflammatory language around datacenters burning the planet, killing salmon and so on, this is dangerous.

Shame on Codeberg for allowing this McCarthyism.

Will FreeBSD adopt a No-AI policy or such?

It's documented here: https://wiki.netbsd.org/zfs/ ZFS on root isn't supported in the installer yet, though, and I don't quite understand the wiki here: https://wiki.netbsd.org/root_on_zfs/ Also interesting: https://mail-index.netbsd.org/netbsd-users/2025/12/19/msg033689.html

Will FreeBSD adopt a No-AI policy or such?

If we discuss the ethics: 1. We'll never agree on them pleasing everybody or even most people. 2. We genuinely risk that other countries develop more powerful models because they don't have the same moral itch as us. We must know how the models behave with all the data produced by mankind...

Will FreeBSD adopt a No-AI policy or such?

LLMs came here to stay and we have to learn to live with it. I was also skeptical at first but the technology has potential. We have to find a middle ground between the AI optimism and the doomerism. The latter only contributes to AI exceptionalism, and thus to the hype. It all depends on...

Will FreeBSD adopt a No-AI policy or such?

The UN has no such powers.

Will FreeBSD adopt a No-AI policy or such?

No. We're all much better than that. Arguing is a petty-bourgeois vice.

Will FreeBSD adopt a No-AI policy or such?

GPL code in training doesn't make any generated code GPL. Good luck to the FSF arguing that in court, though IANAL. GPL infection is done via linking and libraries may contain the linking exception or use the LGPL.
