Why are FreeBSD users seen as black sheep? (+ thanks)

Meh. I talk to them as a person and don't consider anything else. The worst that can happen is I'll get a ticket which I would deserve anyway. A cop said he was sitting at the top of a hill and saw me pull into the street. There were five stop signs and I stopped at all but one of them. He let...

Anyone using Musk's "Starlink" for inet?

Every month? I just had a $5 increase last week for the first time in who knows how long. At least two years. I don't use it but over the past year I've seen a significant number of the flat antennas popping up in rural areas.

Other "Lightweight Desktop" vs "feature-rich and resource intensive"

An Unix Workstation does not require a GUI. If you are using workstation tools that are graphical, yes. If you aren't, no. My programmers, and every place I worked, we didn't need or use graphical tools anywhere for programming. My graphics people did cause graphics is graphical. But you don't...

Why are FreeBSD users seen as black sheep? (+ thanks)

I'm at the point where I don't care. Neither should you. They have their opinion and have points that are probably correct but you have your opinions which are true, too. Those who try and tear you down for your opinions without giving solid reasons for their opposing view are not worth...

Solved Thread can be deleted (Any interest for a piano tuning software?)

Years ago I had a friend who was blind. He was learning to become a piano tuner which seemed like a great job for a blind person. We were at another friend's house who had a piano. "What key is this?" someone asked as they pressed one. "D!" he said. "What about this one?" again the test. "F!"...

It is colorized GUIs that overload neurons as they fire more and different sensors than plain text. That's why alerts flash and are red or yellow because they fire more sensors than nothing at all. If you keep adding more and more colors to paint, eventually it turns all white (or is it...

Solved Javascript behaving unexpectedly on FreeBSD (with Apache)

Well that makes me think again it has something to do with how time is handled between Linux and FreeBSD.

Former mod sctb from 2018 talks about it in this comment: And dang (lead moderator or whatever his title is) confirms it again in 2021:

Solved Javascript behaving unexpectedly on FreeBSD (with Apache)

fyi, <center>, <font> and "language" in <script> have been marked obsolete for a decade or more. <script> defaults to javascript so you can leave "type" off altogether. But none of that will fix your problem. The operating system has nothing to do with javascript which runs in the browser alone...

    AI for writing documentation

Maybe related by my good friend Jeff Geerling who lives 10 minutes from me and I've never met: https://www.jeffgeerling.com/blog/2026/ai-is-destroying-open-source/ Actually, I live closer to Wayne Gretzky but now I'm really getting off topic.

    AI for writing documentation

As one who used to work in a news TV station--though its been decades--and has a relation in TV news today, this is true. As far as using AI to program, clay still doesn't mold itself.

    AI for writing documentation

Thus the problem. There is an article online that says the free AI tools are not what company programmers use. Those types pay for the AI tools they use and that means hundreds of dollars a month. Even then the generated code has to be gone over. He recommends, for you and me, buy the $20/...
