    Are there any "trekkie fans"

Thanks. I feel old now. I had to carry 17" CRT around, use serial line to make a network to play Doom or an online text-mud. In that case, I recommend reading the book series around that. The Centauri trilogy has all the back story around Londo and Vir, but I prefer the Technomage Trilogy. They...

    Important persons in your country.

Maybe we should do away with countries at some point and just accept that we are one world? That would put a lot of grifters out of a job, that's why it will not happen. Which is sad.

That's the big trick the austrians played on us. They made the world believe that that painter was german while also claiming that Mozart was Austrian.

... still adding to and sorting the list. An awful lot of people, but I'm not sure who really belongs (like Friedrich 2, who was Prussian, thus not German. Or was he? Introduced the potatoe to the masses by banning it) Carl von Linde (Refrigerator, keeping medicines available all around the...

    FreeBSD Screen Shots

It is in ports, well - freshports.org says it is. I will have a look at that for my next desktop-makeover.

    FreeBSD Screen Shots

I had xearth as a background for some time. And after a long coding session, you suddenly see your capital city come up on the right and you watch the horizon getting lit. That's when you put the coffee away and start looking for your bed. Now if a new version of xearth could use sattelite feeds...

    Side effects from reducing kern.maxvnodes?

The interesting part for vnodes is at the middle, a bit to the right. There are still free vnode data structures left, so there is no impact on cache performance from the vnode number. That is limited by your free memory. And yes, inactive memory can be reclaimed at once.

    Side effects from reducing kern.maxvnodes?

As long as you stay above the number absolutely needed (plus delta ofc) it will limit the code cache. FreeBSD caches on a per-file base, that is what shows up as "inactive" memory. Try having top running and check if the user memory gets exhausted. If you still have enough free memory, lowering...

Solved Is Rust now killing C++ and eventually C with it ?

How much change would you need to escape the copyright? The license? Over how many lines of code was this sco case fought?

Solved Is Rust now killing C++ and eventually C with it ?

You could call it a lossy encryption then. My argument in court would be that in face of a lack of creativity the result would by definition be a more or less good copy of the input, thus not a derived work.

They are. But there is small room for meta jokes, so jokes about jokes could sometimes be tolerated.

We found this spoon. (I wonder, how would a coop of Monty Python and Mel Brooks have worked out? Or is that the lethal joke that sketch is about?)

Will FreeBSD be available in California in 2027?

Oh they did that, big time, in the railcars carrying mail between BRD/DDR and back, so you could have letters which were opened twice in transit. And of course you can depend on telephones being listened to. I always joke that the internet rollout here is so slow because the spooks' budget is...

Will FreeBSD be available in California in 2027?

Our local TelCo is floating plans to have AI agents in all calls which you can summon by saying "Hello Magenta" which is supposed to help you with matters. I just hope we are not so far up idiocracy creek that people can't vote with their wallet (and law suits, come to think of this). Not long...

Will FreeBSD be available in California in 2027?

That may be the goal for some companies involved. Because parents are the administrators, and administrators must be trusted to do "the right thing". So, with great sadness, it will be decided that nobody can be the admin on their own system because you can not be trusted. Microsoft is trying...
