    Youth & design annimé.

Heh, I remember in high school, my friend Kirk and I used to go right to my house after school to catch Bugs Bunny. School got out at 3:00, Bugs came on at 3:30, and my house was close enough to catch it. It was high school, and I guess, at the time, (early 70's) we thought it was cool. We did...

    Movies (and TV shows)...

This movie's English title is Small, Slow but Steady. In its native Japanese title seems more like Keiko Eyes Open Wide, maybe, but maybe a native speaker could give a better translation. (My wife just said, I'm watching TV, leave me alone--err, that's not a translation of the movie title) But...

    The Random Thread

Yeah that one was funny. In the hackernews article, someone put a Shakespeare quote in there. The results were amusing.

    Music…

I just came across this. Dumb Ways to Die, which was a PSA from Australian Metro, but is quite an earworm. View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJNR2EpS0jw

Other FreeBSD 15.0 - Hyprland Setup

Alain De Vos, I had the same issue. I remember giving up for awhile after asking and getting your response, that it wasn't working. However, with the later drivers, it's been trouble free for me. (580.142 for a GT1030 card).

    Playing with mdo(1)

elephant (like that name, by the way), I can't duplicate your issue. mdo -i pkg update works fine for me. My user is a member of wheel, video, and vboxusers (which I'll remove when I get around to it as I've switched to bhyve). Hrmm, if I try mdo id -p I get mdo: setcred(): Operation not...

What to do? Maybe there are more BSD desktop users?

My experience is like AlfredoLlaquet and Espionage724. Links are reddish. This is on Waterfox and Firefox.

    Playing with mdo(1)

That seems to be what I find as well. I do it in an alacritty terminal and just close that terminal afterwards. For my particular workflow that seems the easiest. EDIT: Actually not exactly. In that same terminal, I can just type exit and I'm back at my usual user.

    URGENT - NVIDIA - REL15.0: 580.119.02_1 of nvidia driver/drm61/kmod - ARE KNOWN BROKEN

If it's at all useful, I did an upgrade the other day, (I have packages set to latest), and am having no trouble with Nvidia (580.142) at present.

It's all about jokes, funny pics...

I haven't heard most of these jokes--I thought I knew all his stuff, but I was wrong--what a pleasant surprise. For Hedberg fans--it seems as if he's trying some new material--not all of it lands.

    GUI Network Config?

Another helpful thing is the man(8) ifconfig page. It has examples. For instance, you ask about two addresses on one interface, in the man page, search for alias. You'd want something like (using re0 as interface), ifconfig_re0_alias0="192.168.1.5 netmask 255.255.255.255" under the line giving...

It's all about jokes, funny pics...

I had to startpage (an alternative search engine) that one. I did watch a trailer that came up in the search, and I did get a chuckle. View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-_5JJmNB6E I'm thinking of trying to track down the series now, (hence the thanks). Though Wikepedia says 85...

Insufficent privilages to install packages on freebsd

I think the best thing is to describe exactly what you did. Did you type the words pkg install update? If I do that I get a message that no pkg available matching update. Did you try to install one package, like pkg install firefox? Did you try sudo or doas, like sudo install firefox? When...

California, Brazil, UK issue...my 2 cents

I mentioned this in the CA thread, but there's an article about some System76 people having discussions with lawmakers. https://www.theregister.com/2026/03/10/foss_age_verification_2/

Will FreeBSD be available in California in 2027?

For what it's worth, I saw an article (The register? I can't find it now though) how in Colorado, EFF or someone had opened a discussion with a lawmaker who hadn't considered such a thing. AHA! Found it. https://www.theregister.com/2026/03/10/foss_age_verification_2/ And it was System76...

It's all about jokes, funny pics...

If it angers you, then it might mean it's about you. Reminds me of an old Margaret Cho routine, Then there's the tramp (she uses a meaner word). She goes on about how in every dramatic portrayal of women, one is usually playing such a role. Then she says "Look amongst yourselves...."
