    URGENT - NVIDIA - REL15.0: 580.119.02_1 of nvidia driver/drm61/kmod - ARE KNOWN BROKEN

...any transparency effect but no flickering anymore. AFAIK it is stated on some other forum (Arch Linux one if I remember) that it comes from nvidia-driver, so full proprietary stuff, and not solved in the last versions. I guess an AI did the work, and NVIDIA waits for another AI to fix this...

FreeBSD on early 2000s gambling machines

4:06 he's using Firefox! I want to know more about that machine too; the inside looks clean, and FreeBSD's choice looks intentional. I tried searching random words on front like "spielstelle" but that might be a generic word I researched a little into Konami music game machines (DDR, Sound...

FreeBSD on early 2000s gambling machines

...minute 3:28 A short sequence of the inside is shown, but it is not possible to see the hardware. From the listing it includes an Intel ICH5 chipset, most likely a Pentium 4 or Celeron, an Nvidia GEforce 5200 and a Realtek 8169 NIC. Anyone who knows more about those machines and their inside?

Report on running LLM inference on FreeBSD

...I have two homelabs with strictly identical hardware so it makes comparing with Linux easy: - MZ01-CE1 mobo - AMD EPYC 7601 processor - 4x Nvidia P40 GPUs - 64GB DDR4 RAM - 1TB M.2 SSD My Software My tests have been made with a Llama-3.3 model, 70B Instruct, quantized as IQ4 NL, in GGUF...

    FreeBSD is well situated

Considering that Intel and Nvidia are partnering and that Intel announced a while back that they were stepping back from some of their open-source commitments, I don’t think that’s going to happen. Intel and Nvidia are likely collaborating on RISC-V to challenge ARM.

    OBS Studio crashes on startup

    # uname -v FreeBSD 16.0-CURRENT main-n283901-0bba277f2223 GENERIC NVIDIA-SMI 470.256.02 Driver Version: 470.256.02 Although obs-studio installs clean now, and there is no need to use ports to "make" it, though it's still not fully functional in FreeBSD with nvidia-driver, due to the...

XDM seems working on different display...

Hello, I have recently installed XDM and it was working until I have finally managed to configure NVIDIA Optimus to work as prime. Now, XDM works judging from the fact that I am able to log in by typing username, return, password and return but no login prompt or background gets displayed on...

Solved Locking nvidia driver against upgrades.

If the kernel modules load fine but Xorg doesn't and any of COMPAT_FREEBSD* are required, it maybe mean the library part (basically provided as pre-built objects) require it. This is because EoL'ed versions does not at all upgraded for newer X11 servers that appear after the driver release...

    OBS Studio crashes on startup

Can package updates be pushed to repos without testing? Fedora's OBS ordeal had me asking questions :p obs-studio started fine for me on 16.0-CURRENT too a few days ago (March 2026; streamed Runescape)

    FreeBSD is well situated

There are many packages to run AI locally. For LLMs, too, starting with ollama. On FreeBSD you can't get CUDA for NVidia, though, although AMD hardware acceleration works.

Solved Locking nvidia driver against upgrades.

Thanks for all the information! 👍️ In my case, this won't be an issue because I don't use X on those homelabs anyway, they're purely local inference servers (the P40 don't even have a video output, anyway 😅). I bookmark this thread for when I'll start installing FreeBSD on one of those, thanks...

Solved Locking nvidia driver against upgrades.

...for their specific FreeBSD version so I figured I didn't need the old version compatibility shims. Everything worked as expected, except the NVidia driver. It loaded just fine but Xorg simply refused to start. For some odd reason it required COMPAT_FREEBSD11 when 11 was EoL for quite some...
