2024: The year of desktop FreeBSD?

The comment that followed neither alleviated the upset, nor impressed me. Mean-mindedness in The FreeBSD Forums is an illness. In parting, birdie wrote: "It's the first time in my entire life that people instead of sticking to the topic are discussing the OP instead.".

How to get intermediate ports dependencies

At a glance, in FreshPorts: 1. www/py-rfc3987 is required by devel/py-flex alone 2. no port depends upon devel/py-flex. If you can discover why that one is listed, we might gain a more general understanding of the puzzles. % pkg rquery '%c\n\n%e' www/py-rfc3987 Parsing and validation of URIs...

    mem resource alloc failed

Things have changed greatly since the 2023 post that you mentioned. The author often helps end users in a community space elsewhere, he does have an account here however has not been seen here since May. Was that 14.0 or 14.1? 14.1-RELEASE is recommended for new installations, installation...

    Solved monitor GPU performance

Thanks, at a glance I don't see anything graphic- or GPU-related at the GitHub page. Maybe I'm missing something.

Solved pkg fails with mystery error after upgrade from 13.3 to 14.1

It's a message with an exclamation mark, however it's not presented as an error. I mean, it's nothing to worry about. You may ignore the message. https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/pkg-package-database-is-busy-while-closing.89936/#post-671150

Chrome 14.1 can't select multiple tabs with shift

Yes. The screenshot above shows Chromium with two tabs selected. The screenshot below shows Chromium with the same two tabs selected. It's confusing. I mean, two tabs are selected, but the browser fails to show that they are selected. If someone can find the code commits that relate to...

Chrome 14.1 can't select multiple tabs with shift

Sorry, I don't provide support here. The rules, and: https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/please-create-a-current-forum.79595/ You'll find me as grahamperrin in discussions elsewhere. Not here.

    Microsoft Office on FreeBSD?

Understood, thanks. Given the various open source angles, I expect Apache-related development in this area to be on a par with Document Foundation-related development

freebsd-version -kru ; uname -aKU Also, can you name one of the unexpected dependencies? Thanks. Without me attempting to assess whether your environment is messed up (sorry – I'm speeding through various topics), here's the result of a dry run on 1500026. Part of this might be informative...

Not the original, but here's a duplicate of the blog post: https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/new-cis-r-freebsd-14-benchmark-secure-your-systems-with-expert-guided-best-practices.94632/

Loader needs to be updated (14-STABLE)

I'm not familiar with mfsBSD, but FreeBSD 13.2 was released more than eighteen months ago, and reached end of life in June: The message that the loader needs to be updated is a reliable indicator that an update is needed. Not a bug.
