There have been library changes recently that affect dependencies of OpenOffice.org, if you install sysutils/bsdadminscripts (it has no dependencies), you can run pkg_libchk and show us the output. This might give a clue.
There is a CONFLICT entry in the subclipse port. Though the ports really do not conflict. I will email the maintainer of subclipse, he/she should remove this oddity.

I use NTFS for shared data with fusefs. It's not an out of the box solution, but a working one. Especially with the fusefs_safe and fusefs_safe_evil hacks.

For package upgrades portupgrade is still the best tool.
portupgrade -Pa will upgrade all your packages and build those missing in the latest version from the ports tree. portupgrade -PPa will upgrade only when packages are available.
Honestly, 320k is way beyond the human hearing in quality loss. And additionally encoding compressed data only leads to more quality loss. Enocding to Vorbis will only get you better quality (not at q5, in my opinion) if you do so from a source without lossy compression, such as .wav or .flac...
