    Playing music/audio on command-line

In my tests, I was unable to get mpd's auto_update working for my music library. (macOS though.)

GitHub is no longer independent at Microsoft after CEO resignation

From the link: Honestly, that is an improvement. There are too many HR people.

Why was XenForo chosen for freeBSD?

Of all the modern forum software, IPB is the most pleasant one in my (strange) opinion. However, I really don't like Discourse, NodeBB and/or Flarum either. Using them with a command-line browser is almost impossible, long discussions are hard to follow, the "design" isn't my cup of tea and they...

    Working with Numbers on Commandline

AFAICS that's how it still works in more recent operating systems. In Plan 9, bc is bc.y instead of bc.c.

What do you think of web berms?

FWIW, Anubis (which FreshPorts is probably going to use) supports a JavaScript-free bot check. Personally, I will never require enabling JS to visit my websites.

    Playing music/audio on command-line

Wherever I can, I use audio/cmus. It is decently lightweight, it supports all the audio formats I use and it lets me scrobble to Last.fm and ListenBrainz at the same time, which I would like to do.

Sounds like a good first bug report.

FreeBSD Foundation Flounders on 15 with Rust, pkgbase, and KDE

These are two different things, one of them is true. Distrowatch just isn’t the canonical review database for actual Unices. Not every community spends much of their time there. :) OpenIndiana comes with its own boot loader. I’m not an expert on either grub or OpenIndiana, but you should be...

FreeBSD Foundation Flounders on 15 with Rust, pkgbase, and KDE

I migrated my last FreeBSD server to OmniOS (~Solaris 11) a while ago, and it is plain awesome, honestly.

GitHub is no longer independent at Microsoft after CEO resignation

That's a bit unfair to IBM. While Corel buys great software and then lets it fall asleep (why on earth did Corel want WordPerfect Office in the first place?), IBM does the opposite: selling great software to the highest bidder.

    www/netsurf has been ported.

GitHub is no longer independent at Microsoft after CEO resignation

It depends. Wiki, issue tracker, discussions, web interface? Fossil got you covered. CI? Yes, that's a different story. (But there are solutions for that.) You ran the CMUCL infrastructure? Honestly, thank you! Wait until you hear about Corel. Codeberg does not yet belong to any large...

SVN is notably less annoying to use than Git. (ref. xkcd 1597)

GitHub is no longer independent at Microsoft after CEO resignation

It is the more viable option in the long run, it seems. I’m on Fossil. Git is optimized for the Bazaar, not for the Cathedral. But all of my projects are primarily mine, so Git does not make sense.

Luckily, code self-hosting is incredibly easy.

I'm interested in the Bourne Shell

Except that zsh is not really a compatible shell. It can emulate a wide array of different shells - badly.

    BSD Make > GNU Make

Of those, I'll always opt for CMake. Meson has its own set of dependency hell(s).
