Solved Upgrade might have broken vm-bhyve

Emrion, I don't have the skills, unfortunately to write my own. :-(

Thanksgiving - no donation this year

PMc, LLC is Limited Liability Corportation. I don't know the ins and outs, but for example, when my wife started her business, a studio for an exercise called Gyrotonic, her accountant advised her to do it that way. I agree with much of what you said, by the way. I don't think it's malicious...

Call for testing: pkgbase support in 15.0

Changing the subject, for what it's worth, I have a VM that was running 15.0-RC4. This morning I ran an update (using pkgbase, as this is a VM to test such things on), and got 15.0-RELEASE. Last night, an update left it at RC4. As it was already at RC, I didn't run into the pkgbase update...

Solved Upgrade might have broken vm-bhyve

Today, I went to start a vm-bhyve machine and there was a message that it was starting. When I opened vncviewer, however, there was nothing there. Doing vm list showed all VMs were stopped. The log showed error 4 with and a message that it had failed to find virtual switch public. I've had small...

pkg base upgrade equivalent of freebsd-update

As I understand it, freebsd-update will work right now, and I *think* will continue to work with 15.X . Not sure about 15 to 16, but I'm 80-90% sure it's good for upgrades for 14-15

    NVIDIA 14.3 AGAIN

I haven't used Wayland for awhile, but did find out today that it's not working with my machine that has an Nvidia card.. That machine does run the linux service. It's not something I use much, so I'm not bothering to troubleshoot. As has been said above, Xorg is working without problems.

Solved Running pkg upgrade today broke mpv

Today I ran pkg update, pkg upgrade. I then went to play a video using mpv, and got a message of not being able to open libavcodec.so.60 Did a quick websearch and it seems this problem happens from time to time. There were various suggestions, and I chose the one of reinstalling mpv from ports...

    Computer systems become paranoia

I don't have or use Facebook or Instagram, but my wife, who owns an exercise studio, finds it necessary for her business. I think both accounts are under the business name, not her name, but she doesn't complain to me about it so I don't research it at all. Going back to Alain De Vos's opening...

pkg base upgrade equivalent of freebsd-update

For what it's worth, on a VM this morning which has been pkg basified, doing a package upgrade moved it from RC3 to RC4 with no issues. I just ran sudo pkg update, sudo pkg upgrade. Admittedly, this is a fairly minimal VM but it does run openbox, anyway,it was problem free.

FreeBSD experience so far after switching from Linux - THe installer needs work to not crash so often

I have to jump on the bandwagon, especially when compared to Linux. A FreeBSD install, basic, no GUI, set up root, network, one user, takes me as little as 3 minutes. Compared with some Linux versions with GUI installers that will take several minutes, hang at various spots with no indication...

    PysolFC suddenly became slow?

Glad it's working again for you, anyway. I'd guess it's one of those ports, but I'd have as much luck throwing a dart at a board with them listed as I would at guessing which one. Probably someone else on the forums with more knowledge might know.

pkg base upgrade equivalent of freebsd-update

I'm also wondering. At this time, unless the handbook gets a section in there, I'm planning to use freebsd-update on important systems. I may try pkgbase on some test machines and/or VMs.

    Other Window Manager for FreeBSD

scrots been changed to spectrwm. I used it for awhile and even have a page on it, though the page hasn't been updated in years--I don't think I've used it in 7 years or so. But I agree with bda65 it is a very good window manager. I don't remember why I decided on dwm over it. I also have an old...

    Brave Browser: Good or Bad?

re vermaden's post, I wore glasses from a young age, and while rather young, (Superman with George Reeves was on TV at that time), I thought that people wouldn't realize I was the same person if I took my glasses off. Kids are funny with how naive they are.

comic book reader for PDF format?

There's also zathura-pdf-mupdf which works well for me on pdfs, epubs, and (I think) cbrs. I just don't read that many comics and can't swear that I've used it on cbr. For me, it opens right away. I have a little script, more of an alias really, but it works well for me. #!/bin/sh zathura 2>...

Solved Non-Binary gender option in profile customization

True, but it's far easier to skim an article than a video. Even with my method of running the video at 2x and just reading the captions, I can get the gist of a written article far more quickly.

Solved Non-Binary gender option in profile customization

eternal_noob. I have to jump on the video thing. Last night, bored, I was going through youtube--I sometimes watch various old boxing matches. Anyway, someone had a video, over an hour long, that was just a still photo or two, telling the story of a 5 minute fight (that probably never happened)...

Converting an existing installation to ZFS

I'm going to take the time to recommend another Mike Lucas book. A relatively short (and relatively inexpensive one) on ZFS. Though it's a bit old now, the information, IMO, is still valuable. It answers some basic ZFS questions. https://www.tiltedwindmillpress.com/product/fmzfs/

    I get 15.0-RC2 before it's officially available

cracauer@ my thanks is because that made me laugh, early in the morning. (I might not have laughed were I more awake, but as it is, I found it funny).
