    ZFS Creating a ZFS partition

Yes, of course. gpart add ... only creates a partition. A blank partition and nothing else.

    Understanding the grep license

AT&T doesn't own the POSIX standards or the Open Group, Austin Group and IEEE CS that define and maintain them.

    Solved Take screenshots in XFCE

graphics/ImageMagick or its newer version, or its fork graphics/GraphicsMagick. They may work slightly differently but the general idea is the same. These are command-line toolkits (that do many things other than taking screenshots), but I'm sure linking one of their commands to some keyboard...

sysrc: name contains characters not allowed in shell

You're editing an MIB in /etc/sysctl.conf, so use sysctl sysrc is for... well, RCs.

    /tmp contents?

No, that's not out of date; that's literally museum material. ;) As hier describes things, /tmp is used for storing "temporary files that are not guaranteed to persist across system reboots" as opposed to /var/tmp which is used for "temporary files that are kept between system reboots". In fact...

Welcome to the forums. What you're asking is quite problematic as you can see in this very recent thread.

    How to save YouTube videos

Actually for YouTube you don't even need the entire URL. The video ID (e.g. youtube-dl Ib7tFvw34DMe) will suffice. Yep, it is that great! And I know this may sound rather unorthodox, but I suggest you keep a copy of the script in your own ~/bin directory so that you can run youtube-dl.py -U...

was killed: out of swap space - HUH?

Something got out of control; probably those 4 Firefox processes. And the system started its killing spree. I'm not saying for sure Firefox is the culprit here but it's a very good candidate. It has become such a beast in the past couple of years, but I think 8GB should be sufficient. Do you...

    Am I superstitious? Re:FreeBSD 13

While we're at it, let's confuse people and call it FreeBSDD or FreeBSD 15. ;)

    Solved locked out, kernel panic

I'm glad you solved it. But it's not clear what was happening after you were issuing boot. Was it crashing at that time or what? By the way, Vesa support is implemented as a kernel module (/boot/kernel/vesa.ko) which can be loaded and unloaded within the loader's prompt (loader).

    "FreeBSD vs DesktopBSD"

Nah, you shouldn't consider DesktopBSD for another and much more important reason, mainly that it has been discontinued 4 years ago and that its core is essentially 9 years old (7.2R or something?), meaning that it has outdated software and an unpatched, unsupported and highly insecure FreeBSD...

Why don't browsers use sandbox on FreeBSD?

Ah, the golden age of script kiddies and their two favorite tools, Sub7 and Back Orifice, and the wonderfully secure Windows 98/SE/ME!!! The nineties were such a piece of s great decade!

    gimp: illegal instruction (core dumped)

It depends. If you're more inclined to using GIMP and GTK-based applications, you may mind having to install additional KDE and Qt5 libraries. If you don't, then there is graphics/krita.

UFS Read-only root filesystem changing on boot

In single-user mode the root partition is mounted read-only by default. Perhaps there's something else going on too that would explain the difference between single and multi-user modes. I'm not sure so I don't know if it's intentional. That being said, I must disagree: the last-mounted...

    File name as standard input

AFAIK, birthtime can only be set through utimes. Or by tinkering with fsdb, something I only recommend if you really (note the emphasis) know what you're doing.
