We have couple of servers running RHEL 5.5 with KVM server. FreeBSD 7.x AMD64 installed as VM guest to run various tasks such as mail, smtp, proxy and so on on. This way we save power, and hardware costs. I was wondering if you tested automation with KVM? Thanks!

No, you can't. The only solution is to use KVM to login using console remotly and stop firewall. Than update new rules. If KVM over IP is not possible, than ask some one in DC to fix for you.

The simply solution is to add os x user (let us say you login as joe on os x) to FreeBSD and grant that user NFS permission. This should solve the problem.

I don't see any problem for running nfs server from host. If you use drop all policy on router or pf and open only ssh; than no one can access NFS over the Internet. May be you need to provide a little more info.
