    Flash not working in Opera

As @biniar says, you don't need to install nspluginwrapper. Apparently you didn't follow the Handbook at all. There is a special section in it concerning www/opera in particular -- section "7. 2. 2. Opera". Please, before you ask here, at least make a real effort and read the manual. It's...

I changed /etc/passwd for root to use bash

Exactly. If you keep /usr or /usr/local in a separate partition, you will automatically not be able to boot into a single-user mode (well, this may not be true, because user-specific configuration isn't read at that time yet). But, you can still fix it pretty easily, using live media. However...

[Updated] Oracle Discontinues Free Java Time Zone Updates

Hah, Oracle; but despite all they have done, I am still a little surprised they decided to cut Java.

[HOWTO] buildworld using clang + ccache

Thank you, that definitely makes it more readable, but I don't think it has an impact on performance, since I think this file is read only once on the beginning (by accident I once changed the compiler in it during compilation and nothing changed until the compilation ended). UPDATE: I noticed...

[HOWTO] buildworld using clang + ccache

Yes, that's what I thought, because I didn't see any difference. So now, I made two consecutive buildworlds, but the impact was really great! I don't have sysutils/bsdadminscripts installed, I didn't set the USE_CCACHE or USE_CCACHE_CPP2 variables. What I did is described below. I installed...

[HOWTO] buildworld using clang + ccache

Pardon my ignorance, but man ccache and files in /usr/share/doc/ccache folder describe no such variables as USE_CCACHE or USE_CCACHE_CPP2, which is why I am asking. There is CCACHE_CPP2, however. I am not sure, if the approach described in this how-to gives the expected results, because the...

Where are all these variables defined? I have been trying to find them in /usr/src, but they're not there.

    I know I'm a smartass because....

Double LOL :e! Just what I'd expect from this awesome community :D. Well, you can make all sorts of macros, and make your document print letters with tulips and musical composition, but this doesn't mean you'll be able to reinvent the way people read books. BTW I am not saying *Office is all...

    Obtaining source from installation media

Well in my opinion, portsnap is faster, but it does keep another copy of the entire ports tree under /var. Then again, svn is a large port. But if you plan on tracking -STABLE, you'll need svn anyway and then there is no need to keep two tools that essentially do the same job. Also, portsnap...

[HOWTO] buildworld using clang + ccache

Sorry for asking, but does clang natively include ccache, or should one install it separately from port devel/ccache?

    I know I'm a smartass because....

I know, but I get just so annoyed by such ignorance. If you have to fill in any serious applications, they are all in the .pdf format (more or less). But then I get some people who are sending me .doc documents and my blood boils. I remember when I was going in high school, and I prepared some...

Controlling swap usage and buffer levels

I am not against swapping, but what concerns me is if swapping occurs too early. If I have to diagonalize a large matrix for example, I noticed that swapping occurs too early, when there is still usable space left in RAM. I don't really know which programs are being transferred there, but I...

    Obtaining source from installation media

I agree with @ShelLuser. Port devel/subversion is a great tool, and even if the updates for -RELENG aren't released often, you can use it for your ports tree as well. Consider following this post, but only for the ports (since following the RELENG has already been described here).
