Why FreeBSD ISO files are not more compatible?

At present, not that I'm aware. There is some previous work. Come to think of it, I think the FreeNAS installer is a hybrid image. This makes a lot of sense.

Why FreeBSD ISO files are not more compatible?

These were the ones I tried, but I don't know the current status of that project: http://druidbsd.sourceforge.net/.

Why FreeBSD ISO files are not more compatible?

I understand what you are saying, but would rather make it as easy as possible to try FreeBSD and let people decided on the merits of the operating system, not installer attributes.

Why FreeBSD ISO files are not more compatible?

We do have a lot of installer files, and it is confusing to new users. I personally don't see why we even need separate images for i386 and amd64, I know those can both be installed by one installer. The Linux "ISO" images are actually a custom hybrid of CD and hard drive images. I tried some...

What type of hardware would you recommend for desktop FreeBSD

Don't buy Lenovo if you have privacy or hardware freedom concerns. HP has some of the same issues with proprietary hardware lockdown, although I do not know of them being caught inserting exploits into their systems like Lenovo has. As far as video goes, stick with Intel video for a notebook...

    Downgrade from FreeBSD 12.0

Yes, I was assuming you had completed the change by rebuilding all ports or reinstalling packages. If not, you can switch the operating system back.

Check out the 11-stable source and rebuild. You'll have to rebuild ports or packages.

    okular: cups and lpd mismatch?

Most current PostScript printers actually understand PDF natively. In theory, anyway. Does okular offer any configuration of the command it uses to print, like graphics/xpdf does?

    www/linux-c6-flashplugin11 problem

They are dropping support for some Flash stuff. The list is actually pretty short so far (Github link courtesy of Tim Moore): https://github.com/mozilla-services/shavar-plugin-blocklist. With Firefox 49 and the current linux-c6-flashplugin-11.2r202.632_2, Flash does not seem to work at all...

Other Which filesystem for a portable 1TB USB drive?

Cross-platform stuff is difficult. Note the number of platforms and the how few inter-platform filesystems we have found.

    Troubleshooting headless system

Seems doubtful that the boot loader would support a USB to serial adapter, and if that is where it is stalling, it doesn't matter if the kernel supports it. There might be a serial port header on the motherboard inside. It could be part of a high-density connector, if that board is similar to...

Other Which filesystem for a portable 1TB USB drive?

Another way to go about this is to run a VM set up to talk directly to the target disk. Essentially, the VM is a filesystem driver.

Other Which filesystem for a portable 1TB USB drive?

There is nothing preventing a port of FreeBSD's UFS to Linux. Or even just fixing what already exists. There are even UFS drivers for Windows. A good first step would be an array of tests to throw at such things, which could also be used to find bugs and regressions on FreeBSD's UFS.

Other Which filesystem for a portable 1TB USB drive?

Given my choice, I'd like a good FreeBSD-specific UFS driver for Linux. That is not likely to happen, so I recommend instead of a plain external drive, a netbook or the like running NAS software, NFS (or Samba if absolutely necessary) and a network connection. That avoids reverse-engineered or...

    Graphics card for GPU passthrough?

It's not clear how Proxmox is involved here, and following advice for one virtualization system is not necessarily the best approach for a different virtualization system. Does GPU passthrough work at present with bhyve?
