How to install NVIDIA Drivers from official site

Yes, this works, though not with the newest available Nvidia driver versions. :( If you are really feeling adventurous, you could apply the patch for Nvidia driver version 355.11 from 201340, comment #21. I've been testing this driver version and it does work though there are still problems...

    Why do people use FreeBSD?

FreeBSD evolves just like any other operating system. The thing I like about it is changes are generally well thought out before hand, agreed upon and made based on technical merit and need, not because of NIH or to have the newest shiny thing available. It's really amazing when you step back...

How to install NVIDIA Drivers from official site

I sincerely appreciate the time you took to write this up but it's not a good idea to install the Nvidia driver from Nvidia's website. The Nvidia driver port (x11/nvidia-driver) has been patched by the port maintainer to install and update cleanly. When installing the driver from Nvidia's...

Switching to console = black screen

This is not a very good idea. The x11/nvidia port is patched by the port maintainer to install correctly without clobbering/replacing existing files. The driver tarball from Nvidia's website is not patched so you'll likely end up with a broken system the first time you try to update your ports...

    Mouse not moving

I don't remember the specifics but do remember there being some past discussion about problems when mixing PS/2 and USB keyboards/mice at the same time. Maybe that is still a problem here? IIRC, if a USB keyboard or mouse is detected at boot, any PS/2 keyboards or mice were then ignored.

Definitive guide to getting graphics working

If you are running 11-CURRENT, you'll want to stick to the mailing lists for support questions: 40469. Intel Haswell graphics support in 11-CURRENT is still a work in progress, isn't guaranteed to work yet, and can break at any given time.

I can't maker Terminus font the default.

I'm not positive, but I don't think Firefox supports bitmap fonts in which case you would need to use the TrueType version of the Terminus font (x11-fonts/terminus-ttf).

Synth v1.10 has been released (fast repo generation)

Just adding this update is working well for me and is quite fast across the board again. No problems yet to speak of. :)

o_O. If that many servers are still using SSLv2 I can't wait to see all the havoc created with this...

LibreSSL not affected by DROWN attack

I'm not sure that would be possible on FreeBSD 10 and older due to large consumers of FreeBSD but it would be great to see it happen for 11.0-RELEASE at least. :) BTW, base OpenSSL has been updated to 1.0.2g: r296273. Further info on the vulnerability (CVE-2016-0800)...

Let's ask NetFlix to release a native FreeBSD port

If I recall Netflix used to do some user agent checks on the browser (even with Encrypted Media Extensions enabled) and wouldn't work if the OS wasn't Linux or Windows. Is this still the case?

ASUS X555LJ with Intel Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller

11-CURRENT is not supported here on the forums at all: 40469. You can however ask your questions on the freebsd-current mailing list. Additionally, your hardware is using Nvidia Optimus technology which is not supported under FreeBSD at all. If I recall, some FreeBSD users have been able to...

    How to debug X.org problems

Which Intel graphics hardware are you using? It's not clear to me from the log output you posted above. Better yet, can you post the output of pciconf -lv from the machine in question?

    Why do people use Windows?

I always found that to be a load of crap half the time. Support contracts, unlike EULAs, are used mostly for accountability purposes that can be legally enforced. This is of obvious advantage to a business. Plenty of businesses that use open source as part of or even their whole product...

    Why do people use Windows?

While I use FreeBSD whenever I can I also like and use Windows 10 for some things. I also use OpenBSD. Being a fan and user of FreeBSD doesn't mean one needs to dismiss everything else. Nothing wrong with being pragmatic.

    Synth v1.00 has been released

I just noticed when scanning the ports tree Synth takes around 4 times as long for me with version 1.02. What used to take less than a minute in version 1.00 now takes around 4 minutes. Not really that big of a deal but I can see it taking far longer for other people as I have a pretty beefy...

    Solved Running "make install clean"

Another option is to first run make config-recursive from the port directory to configure the options for both the port and all it's dependent ports recursively. If your using the default options, there will not be any babysitting after that.
