Personally, I'm okay with that. FreeBSD exists because people donate their time and/or money to keep the project alive, and get a great OS out of it. Content on the web would probably be of much smaller but much better quality if the "supported by ads" model went away.
Good point. I would also like add to this that no matter what the defaults are, there will always be some users that don't like some of them for whatever the reason. No matter how hard you try, it's just not possible to please everyone all of the time.
This is expected and a result of trying to mix ports and packages. You can make it work if you're knowledgeable enough but it's not recommended. If you want to use an updated Nvidia driver, assuming it works, you'll really want to use ports for everything and not packages or wait until the...
No need to apologize, We all were newbies at one time. :)
Yes, there is also the older sc console driver. You can switch to it by changing kern.vty=vt to kern.vt=sc in your /boot/loader.conf file. That should allow you to change the console resolution with vidcontrol to a supported mode.
Changing the console resolution above 640x400 when using vt is only supported when using kernel mode setting(KMS) and is unfortunately only available for AMD and Intel GPUs at this time.

For users that are having problems or have questions about Xorg and Nvidia GPUs, please create a new thread for your question in a support forum that would be more appropriate.
If you have a question directly related to this Howto/FAQ, or have something to add to it, you are always still...

Hi.
