I found a reason to install a new FreeBSD machine. It will be driving my new Raspberry PI 5 in a month or so. Seen some reviews about how get it working and since it will be a headless machine I do not see any problems.
It will be used to host Hubzilla, run a family calendar and some other...
Google did a job with the translators, but IMHO there are better ones. DeepL is good, but lately I found LanguageTool, and I am very impressed with it:

It is also possible to run your own instance on your network for those who want more privacy.
Being part of a LUG in the early years I can state something I think. Lugs back then, not only the one I was in, started in the late 90's, I think it was 98 to be precise. It was the nl.linux.org one, NLO in short.
Mostly students b.t.w. with some exceptions like me and a few others.

Years ago, way before I stepped into making it a job, I did compile a lot, yeah, checksums, etc.. also read source to help me understand what things do.
I am not happy to move there again, there is a reason for distro's.
I might not switch to freebsd due to this since I have a working machine...
From all the responses I do no see any confirmation port maintainers might be the real problem. Thanks all, I can always switch to compiling things myself but was hoping to avoid it.
Hi all,
A question, a few years ago I moved my Desktop machine from Linux to Ghost BSD. This was not advised by someone, but it looks ok, and I was too fuzzed from medication to take the step to FreeBSD or OpenBSD ( had some 20-year-old experience.... and used other Unix OS's (paid ones ))...
I simply bumped into the problem trying to install Debian on it. Went looking for solutions and found this post Nixcraft made. It worked for me.
There are more frontends yes, tried some but I like cbsd because of the toolset it offers.
Weird, do you have cbsd installed too? If so you might want to see if they succeed at it. I know I was unable to install debian until I move the efi file
Did you copy the efi file to the correct location? Done several installs of Debian vm's to test it and this works for me.

Thank you all, I am familiar with cups, etc... and it will be in my home only. I will probably have it turned of most of the time. I do want to make prints now for our family calendar and a few other things
Hi all,
Was not able to find it in the discussions. I am planning to find a laser-printer so I can ditch those inkjets I have. I only print some 10 pages a year or so.
Are there any printers with good support for FreeBSD?
