PF Oracle drops IPF in favour of PF

Apparently after Blackberry, few car manufacturers, and Apple, Oracle decided to adopt PF as the official firewall of Solaris 12. IPF which was originally developed on Solaris and became its default firewall is apparently on the death row. Oracle is actually using so recent version of PF that their patches have popped up on tech@openbsd.

Thanks. I don't work on Solaris anymore but that was my first professional system admin experience and it's always good to keep up a bit on what's the latest and greatest. That's interesting from the technical side as I'm sure fitting into the Solaris network stack was more work then fitting into any of the BSDs. It's probably too soon to see what the impact to the community will be but that's a good sign that bug fixes are already finding their way back upstream.
