Unlucky Morpheus is one of my favorite bands. Now, they have a side project called "Unholy Orpheus" with the same members except the melodic vocalist. I like it even more. The violinist is fantastic.
I've gone back to my early 20s... on a Melvins kick for the past few weeks. This one is an absolute masterpiece (the song is... the video, not so much)
I'm more of a fan of old school blues-y metal - like early Black Sabbath. Mainly due to my love of Hendrix - who was metal before metal existed. Too bad that sound faded out pre-maturely. I guess it was too musical for the greater metal scene.

In my opinion it didn't. The heavy metal/hard rock sound evolved for about 40 years together with the tech. The musicians and the gear companies pushed each other forward. If Jimi was alive in 70s and 80s his sound would evolve. Every guitarist did.
His sound was already changing in 1970 before he passed away. Look up Band of Gypsys. It was different, but he still kept that signature blues sound. Modern Heavy Metal deviated WAY too far from its roots - s**t doesn't even sound like Rock anymore IMO. A better means of production and sticking to musical roots are mutually independent.
