Why FreeBSD, if I may..

The parallel init is a mutual wish :)
The dirty hack was putting "&" at the end of
Secondary init files..with carefull

But there was a splash screen to use on FreeBSD or is only a linux dejavu?

Maybe this can help
FreeBSD Desktop – Part 1 – Simplified Boot
That could do it but it's a lot of patching.
Later after an update or upgrade it will be gone.
I would like to have that by design but seems that FreeBSD was not designed to be used as a workstation.
Yes, there was once a splash in FreeBSD but it was removed and also that splash lasts few seconds only then it goes back to the text output which was not nice to.

At work I use MacOS, companies need to feel that they have support by licensed software and system.
At home I was used to Linux, Fedora, Debian and later Manjaro but decided to try FreeBSD and I'm still using it until today.

That's the problem with Linux. Basically it's just a kernel with some wrapping. I don't understand why people run different flavours of the same thing.

These flavours simply mask the failings in the underlying OS.

SCO Unixware & OpenServer
Yes , the Bell UNIX labs -> Novell -> SCO Unixware sVr4.2 journey was also part of my life 25 years ago.
but in the end only Solaris 11.4 was left standing of the descendants of Unix System V Release 4.
SPARC/Solaris 11.4 is still available and supported by Oracle. Best and most efficient platform to run ORACLE Database 19c .

For me it was Openserver. Unixware was we have many things. But OpenServer was where things where going. Backbone of many things and rock solid.
Recently tried to subcribe to OpenServer, to test. They told, you no money in your pockets. I do even not talk to you :)

I think this has been posted on this forum previously. Hopefully somewhat on-topic:

I was using a popular NAS appliance software that migrated from FreeBSD to Linux so I migrated to FreeBSD with custom scripts. All I use is NFS anyways so I didn't need all the fancy gui stuff. Still learning my way around but liking what I see. 8 )

I try not to compare both Linux vs BSD side by side. it is like comparing apple vs orange both has it pro and cons.

I am 10+ years Linux user for my personal and professional life.

I now use FreeBSD as my personal workstation mainly for features exploration, and gaming. Yes gaming :)

i'm getting old and my brain plasticity is not that great. I need a system that stable and homogenous and shell commands that last for lifetime.

That why i choose FreeBSD. It provides what I want. Once properly setup it just SERVE. 😀😀😀

Now I am in the twilight zone. Since I installed FreeBSD 15 in my T520 Lenovo and on reboot it did not boot. I will check with sha256 just in case.
