All countries are different, tell me a fact about your country.

Birthplace of democracy
Switzerland?
(I know this means Greece; but once again I wanted to make a joke on Switzerland.)

It can be good food
In my country food for most of my countrymen is more kind of a essential evil. Most people eat one dish, only. The longer it lasts, the more and the cheaper it is, and the faster it is done, the better it is. So more time and money for the important things in life: e.g. wax polish for the holy car.
You cannot get more compliments for food by my countrymen as when you stuffed them with giant portion of cheap fat meat with lots of salt, and sugar (ketchup), sausages, burgers, doner kebab, inhaled within five minutes.
The more north you go, the worse gets the food. In the northern half restaurants are for tourists, only. Once a month is maximum to go into one with the family, looking for where you get largest portions for least money.
A dish without meat for most is no real food.
My countrymen love cooking shows. So they place their stoves into the living room, becasue that's what they have seen on TV: The cook faces his audiance while cooking. They like to have the most expensive, and fancy cooking equipment. But it's for show off, only. They don't use it. They eat convient food from the supermarket in front of the TV - to save time. They believe the quality of food rises with more ingredients, and optical decoration frills, while they are incapable to distinguish a pizza from a yeast dough pie baked with tomato and cheese stodge.

I always thought that China and Japan are tops when it comes to expensive and fancy cooking equipment... After all, they are the places that made an automatic rice cooker really popular. And some commercial rice cookers cost as much as a recent Threadripper. ;)

I cannot tell that. I've never been in neither of those countries. But both cuisines to me belong to world's top.
My rice cooker (forget bags - get a rice cooker! [and wash the rice before you cook it!]) is a cheap thing for 30 bucks from an "asia shop". It's technological pretty similar complex as an egg cooker: switch, heating coil, bi-metal string. But it does it's job - very well. 👍

Kind of unfortunate that even statements of simple facts like basic geography trivia and statistics are a basis for characterizing a conversation as 'going downhill'.
It's the name calling and politics. Many a once great nation now have the worst leadership to pick from. If it was a pick at all... What the F is going on in the world? We know that many who are in official positions belong behind bars, maybe in a place where you have to look up to see hell.

Let's focus on the good stuff, at least in this thread. OK? That does not mean to ignore what's going on.

My country's capital city is not the seat of its government. So far so good. But the national capital is located in a province that, itself, has a capital city that is *NOT* the national capital.

That would be the Netherlands. Amsterdam is the country's capital, but The Hague is were the parlement is. The Hague is the capital of the province South-Holland. Amsterdam is in the province North-Holland, but Haarlem is the capital of that province.

It's even crazier in my beloved South Africa which has no legally defined capital city, but three branches of government are split over different cities: Pretoria is the seat of the president and cabinet (administrative capital), Cape Town is the seat of Parliament (legislative capital) and Bloemfontein is the seat of the Supreme Court of Appeal (judicial capital, although the highest court, the Constitutional Court of South Africa is in Johannesburg). Go figure 😵‍💫

I live on a distant planet that its (rather primitive) population calls Earth.
Despite the fact that a number of these inhabitants are aware that their planet is fragile, no one is doing anything to prevent the climate catastrophe and major conflicts that threaten it.
And yet, oh, how magnificent it is.
But a major extinction of species is underway, and everyone is saddened, but the governments these inhabitants elect (not always) have nothing to do.

Ok, the positive. I'm in NYC, which is often considered a cold and heartless place. The other day, I was walking by a Wegman's, a food store, and fairly large. I saw a security guard running after a woman shouting Miss, you dropped this, holding a loaf of bread. The last time I saw a store worker chase a customer to give them something they'd forgotten was in Kobe, Japan, where I'd say they are well known for customer service. Also, though NYC is considered a cold place, if someone trips on the street, or drops something, there's usually a bunch of people who will run to help. The US is big, and has great variance between areas, to the point where someplace can feel like a different country.

I am spanish, and I am neither proud nor ashamed of it.
The spanish empire "discovered" America, and I believe they tried to grant rights to the natives before other big colonies. But that does not mean they did not massacre people who did not have their technological level, nor that today most of the countries that were part of the spanish empire are poor (some very poor). When former mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador asked Spain for an apology for the conquest of America, I do not think someone with four spanish names should ask for apologize to Spain. He should apologize to the natives himself if he feels his ancestors mistreated the indigenous people.
And I do not like flamenco or paella, just as not all japaneses like manga or usamericans like firearms.

Do you know what happened with Inca people?

I'm in fact still a little miffed that you guys kept all the decent beer for yourselves after that little spat in 1830, Alain. ;-)

IMHO, best beer is German, esp. the Kolsch...

But y'know, ppl from Muslim countries don't eat pork, while for Ukrainians, pure pork fat is a cultural item, a staple in the kitchen, that is addictive on par with illicit drugs:

Oh, and we do have plenty of vegetarians around here.

That is fighting talk buddy. Most parts of Germany don't recognize that as "beer". But it is a brotherly rivalry, it is the history and tradition behind it.

And I also have some Belgian beer around and test it. Some nice things.

My pantry contains foods and spices from around the world, from far east Asia over Africa, south America, Europe...
