subsequent attempts to mount Google Pixel 6 via jmtpfs fail

The first time I connect my device to USB and mount it with jmtpfs, it works, but subsequent attempts fail even though the device is unlocked when I am trying to mount it. I suspect it is a bug with the device itself and trying to be more secure, but want do know if I'm perhaps doing something wrong.

1. connect device
2. unlock device
3. jmtpfs /mnt/usb
4. umount /mnt/usb

5. while device is unlocked, repeat step 3
6. at this point, I get errors:

Device 0 (VID=18d1 and PID=4ee1) is a Google Inc Nexus/Pixel (MTP).
PTP_ERROR_IO: failed to open session, trying again after resetting USB interface
LIBMTP libusb: Attempt to reset device

It only works again if I disconnect the USB cable and reconnect it.
