Read sensor values (fan speed, temperature) from nct6792 chipset?

Hi, is it possible to read sensor values (fan speed, temperature) from nct6792 chipset in FreeBSD? I'd like to watch the fan speed and send an alarm e-mail when the fan fails. Linux has a driver for it and can show values: # sensors coretemp-isa-0000 Adapter: ISA adapter Package id 0: +27.0°C...

    High temperature and fan speed

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 5510 Laptop and everytime I try a live USB with FreeBSD 13.1 or 14-CURRENT or after a bare metal installation I notice increased fan speed and overheating of my laptop. The cpu temperature rises to 55-65 Celcius at rest. The same thing happens in Arch linux. Only in...

Solved Thermal information, reported by Intel processors

There's a comment in the BUGS section of the OpenBSD cpu(4) man page: I'm wondering, whether * It's an Intel-specific bug, and both FreeBSD and OpenBSD have the same problem. OR * It's an OpenBSD specific problem, thus it doesn't apply to FreeBSD.

Solved CPU fan speed running at full speed despite system being 100% idle

On a FreeBSD 12.1 install (powerd enabled and running), the CPU fan speed is at 100% even though top is indicating the system is 100% idle. If I do sysctl -a | grep cpu, I see the CPU frequency is the lowest (800MHz). As for the cx_usage, I see 100% 0% 0% on both cores. The CPU heat sink...

Lenovo T520 CPU Fan too slow at Mode 7

Hello, on a old Lenovo T520 I noticed that to set the CPU fan to .. sysctl dev.acpi_ibm.0.fan=0 sysctl dev.acpi_ibm.0.fan_level=7 .. results into an RPM of ca. 3300 where as the fan max is in the 5500+ area. In Windows with tpfancontrol the max rpm's can be set. I will test this issue with...

Solved CPU fan regulation at QNAP TS251+

Hello everybody, Does anybody know how I can manipulate the fan rotation speed at my homeserver? Specs here. With FreeBSD installed the fan always rotates at maximum speed which is annoying due to the noise... Questions: 1. How can I monitor the fan regulation speed? 2. What is the FreeBSD...
