edit: nano /usr/local/kde4/share/config/kdm/kdmrc

AllowRootLogin=false
to
AllowRootLogin=true
 
well...I'm runnig kde 4.5.5 and i feel quite out of date...

i need 4.7 or at least 4.6.x!

how to update?

sorry...customary to arch(bleeding edge)
 
Oh, and don't login as root. It's disabled for a reason.
