Well, this is certainly an unpleasant surprise...
My disk uses zfs for /var, /home + /usr, the rest is on root. After reboot, the kernel crashed with this message after having mounted /
I had made 2 changes to my system before re-booting:
1. added geom_mbr_load="YES" to loader.conf
2. ran portupgrade -a. Portupgrade had been giving me some problems with several ports failing to build so I just installed the package version for those with
[cmd=]portupgrade -PP pkg_name[/cmd]
I seriously doubt this is the source of the problem though.
I booted into safe + single user mode and got normal output for the following commands:
BUT I get this output:
when I run any of the following:
I also tried the bootloader command line (option 8? from the boot screen) and toggle-module geom_mbr as well as the command to unload the geom_mbr module.
When I type exit at this point I get the
flashing endlessley on the screen; so this also led to nowhere.
A strange observation is that the main slices are now listed twice after geom_mbr was loaded - ie: two listings for ada0s1, two entries for ada0s2 etc.
I'm reasonably sure that the geom_mbr module has hosed the my zfs mapping somehow, but I do not know how to fix that and I would also like to be absolutely sure that this is indeed the problem before I attempt any surgery.
