Exclamation Rules And Guidelines of the FreeBSD Forums

Starting today, new users receive the following note when signing up to these forums. To make sure everyone is on the same page, we advise existing users to read this message carefully as well, and we consider all users bound by these principles.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The FreeBSD Forums are governed by a number of rules and guidelines. You are required to read the information supplied on the links below before making any posts to the forums.

If it is clear from your posts that you have failed to read this information, you may receive an official warning, or your membership may be suspended or revoked.

Important notice regarding SEO activity
The FreeBSD Forums are not an advertising billboard or a "Search Engine Optimization" (SEO) tool. If we find that you use your profile page (which is not accessible by any search engine anyway, so it can never be indexed) to promote websites other than your own personal (i.e. non-corporate and non-commercial) homepage or weblog, your account will be banned on sight. There will be no linkdumping, no linkbuilding, and no backlinking on the FreeBSD Forums, either on profile pages, in visitor messages (your own, or those of other members), in signatures, in private messages, or in forum posts. There is a zero-tolerance policy in effect. Don't test it.

To get this issue out of the way immediately:
Why can't I edit my own posts (yet)?

Moreover, before you create a new topic, make sure you've read any 'Sticky' posts at the top of the forum you're posting in. They contain information that may render your topic unnecessary or answer questions you were about to ask.

Some examples:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note: infractions and warnings will be given from now on! Take these rules seriously or you may be banned temporarily (automatically after three warnings/infractions) or permanently!
