You will be able to edit, after 10 days and 10 posts (or something like that)

And This is very wrong section...
search would probably uncover this, btw

It's a FAQ

http://forums.freebsd.org/faq.php?fa...g#faq_postedit

Silly rule, but one works with what one has.

It's not a silly rule, it deters/discourages spammers.

No, it allows, neigh encourages, spammers to enter NEW messages, while at the same time frustrating legitimate posters who wish to simply edit a message that they've saved. QED silly.

Rather like: copyright notices and anti-pirate notices at the start of DVDs which are force fed to viewers provided they have purchased a legitimate DVD. The pirate DVDs omit such notices. Yes, only legitimate DVD purchasers are inconvenienced.

Which means they will be detected almost immediately, because spammers do not post meaningful messages. They will just post crap like 'Yeah, I agree', or copy a part of someone else's post.

And then they're gone.

QED (dozens of times, I might add).

I must agree with DutchDaemon, I have had the same experience on my forums (Also vB), after settings restrictions for new users similar top those of these forums almost all spam disappeared overnight.

Point in case I would say.
