    Distributed Computing

In general, this sort of thing doesn't make sense for video games (or a large number of everyday tasks that you might just want to do faster). For one thing, the node-to-node communication is insanely pokey (Gigabit?) compared to internal communication on a single node. In other words, you would...

Hey that did the trick! Do you think that it was likely an issue on my end, or a lurking bug somewhere? Thanks again! -m

    Xorg 7.4 upgrade - report

Input lag with HAL on.... Hello all, I'm a bit stumped here...I have a relatively new (< 2 months old) install of 7.1-RELEASE that I am experiencing some input lag in X with. If I have the hald on and I stop typing for a few moments, then begin typing again, it will take several seconds...

    XFCE4 update

Hmmm no trouble here. I just did a pkgdb -F just before to clean out all the old-removed stuff, followed by portupgrade. Been very happy with the update.

KDM fails to login after update

Hmm, this is interesting. Everything was working fine for a bit, but this afternoon, I started up the machine, and it's happening again (with both hald and dbus ON). There are a few slight changes though: 1) It no longer spits any sort of error out (Is there an appropriate place where KDE...

Certainly, I was thinking a bit more in technical terms. Certainly reasonable if there is not a straightforward answer. Thanks again. -m

KDM fails to login after update

Hmmm actually after a little tinkering I found I needed hald_enable="YES" But not the dbus_enable. Hrm..Well it works anyway...

KDM fails to login after update

Ah! I added: dbus_enable="YES" to my rc.conf, and all is well. Er...well not quite something funky, but it is probably manageable now. But this leaves me wondering: Why did I not need this with kde4.1.4? Anyway, thanks for your help!

Xorg 7.4 issue: kdm started before hald and so X does not accept kb/mouse input

I recently had the same problem, instead of messing with the launch order I added Option "AllowEmptyInput" "off" to the ServerLayout section of my xorg.conf.

KDM fails to login after update

Hmm, well there is no mention of dbus in the dmesg output at all. However, a "ps aux | grep dbus" shows that there is, in fact, a "dbus-lauch --aut" running. Is that sufficient, or should there be something else running? Thanks! -M

KDM fails to login after update

Hello All, I am running 7.1-RELEASE and recently decided to update to KDE 4.2 (I had a fully functioning install of 4.1.4 prior). I followed the instructions from UPDATING that suggested I do the following: # pkg_delete -f kde\*4.1.4\* automoc4-\* # portmaster -a (or portupgrade -a)...

    Amd64 forum category

<parse error> It's "non-i386/amd64" meaning "non-i386/non-amd64". Or at least, that makes the most sense.
