    ZFS vs UFS

hi olav, thank you for your reply. well, as I wrote, it's a vm host, so I am not sure if the RAM used has ECC. the vm is supposed to be used as web- and databaseserver, so our major interests are 1) speed and 2) stability. certainly zfs has much more features than ufs, but the question is, if...

    ZFS vs UFS

Hello dear community, I suppose to install FreeBSD 8.1 (amd64) on a VMware ESXi 4.0/4.1 [vSphere 4.0/4.1] Host; the VM's main specifications are: - Intel DualCore (E5450 @ 3.00GHz) - 4GB RAM - 1 x 80GB HD Which is in your opinion the best ( = fast / stable / best performance) filesystem for...

    tcsh - Completion

hi phoenix, thank you for your advice; if you mean "set autolist" by "one line", so I've to tell that this has been already set before. once again: the completion works great - this is not the main problem; the problem is, when you type "cd /usr/ports/x11/" and then type [TAB] to display the...

    tcsh - Completion

hello dear members, I've left bash and decided to give a chance to the FreeBSD standard shell, tcsh. as I can see, for the daily routine work the tcsh is sufficient and noticeably faster, there is almost no reason for using bash instead. but there are still some little details I got used to...

Problem with "mod_fcgid" inside a jail

[Solved] serendipitously, I was able to find myself a solution to this; trying the following should help: /etc/sysctl.conf: security.jail.sysvipc_allowed=1 /etc/rc.conf: jail_sysvipc_allow="YES" then restarting your jails, it should work properly. :)

Problem with "mod_fcgid" inside a jail

Hi, running mod_fcgid (for apache22) on a amd64 server refuses apache to start. in the httpd log there is mentioned: No such file or directory: mod_fcgid: Can't create share memory for size %zu byte I tried to find some help through google, and it seems there exist other users too, who ran into...

    bash - returning from vim

I got the solution! The original xterm-section in /usr/share/misc/termcap should be like this: xterm|xterm-color|X11 terminal emulator:\ :ti@:te@:tc=xterm-xfree86: replace (or comment out) it with this: xterm|xterm-color|X11 terminal emulator:\...

    bash - returning from vim

Thank you guys! I tried a lot of things and variations (with te/ti in the .termcap file), but it still does not work. What exactly has to be mentioned in $HOME/.termcap to achieve this feature?

    bash - returning from vim

Hello dear community, I am new to BSD, have been moving from Linux to FreeBSD some months ago and since then I got some really nice experiences, but there are still some little problems, as one I have with bash (4.0). In Linux, when I exit (e.g.) vim, it returns to the same shell prompt I...
