Opera is dropping FreeBSD, it's (almost) official.

Sad. I assumed this was on the way after Opera announced it was moving to WebKit.

alc(4) not viewing packets from span port

I have a FreeBSD 9.0-RELEASE box with an alc nic. I have a span port configured on my firewall, cabled to the nic on the FreeBSD box. The FreeBSD box views 0 packets from the span with tcpdump. I have tried just running tcpdump, and manually putting the card into promiscuous mode with the same...

Do I have to change the disk?

Use smartctl -t long /dev/ad10 to produce a full current report, take note of the time, and view after completion: smartctl -a /dev/ad10 The usual signs of a failing disk are the numeric values Raw_Read_Error_Rate, Reallocated_Sector_Ct, or Seek_Error_Rate rising at a fast rate.

Not entirely sure as I never use find regex's, though ls will output only the filename while find will produce the full path.

The driver gives me problems on a lenovo x120e. It contains an ati radeon hd 6310. Xorg runs fine with the driver, but I'm unable to exit without the system locking up. Ive tried commands, hotkeys, sleep mode, killing xorg pids, and all results in the same. It appears as the brightness gets...

Mutt with IMAP and imapfilter on FreeBSD

My needs are a small niche. My office computer is left on. Server side changes are not an option. The only other access needed to the imap account is via webmail and a single mobile device, both of which required sorting. I've never heard of claws, but know several sylpheed users. My needs...

Mutt with IMAP and imapfilter on FreeBSD

Someone may find this useful. I finally found the time to ditch thunderbird and configure mutt and imapfilter. Fully inaccurate write up at: http://ericholzbach.net/blog/2011/07/using-mutt-with-imap-and-imapfilter-on-freebsd/

    dsniff in FreeBSD

I have never had an issue with the dsniff suite on FreeBSD. You may want to review the official faq at: http://monkey.org/~dugsong/dsniff/faq.html Assuming you installed it from the FreeBSD ports/package system you already have the included man pages. Unfortunately I have never tried running...

    Been hacked?

I think it's safe to say everyone has been owned a few times in their career whether they discovered the intrusion or not. It takes an endless amount of configuration, audits, and patching to stay mildly secure at best. It only takes one vulnerability to leverage privilege escalation. I don't...

    Opera 10.60-final for FreeBSD released.

A week ago Opera released the 10.60 version of their browser for FreeBSD. I personally love it. It runs extremely fast on my systems. I find it aesthetically pleasing as well. For those who don't mind running closed source products, check it out!
