Here's the console output for linux-doom3 on my system:

Well, this is certainly intesting; I had taken all of the measures proposed in this thread to no avail.
I then decided to let go of this problem temporarily as it was driving me crazy, not to mention the increasing loads of homework being dealt at school. Eventually, I noticed that OpenBSD...
I did not originally have linprocfs mounted, but I do now. It hasn't appeared to help. Xorg seems to be properly configured (everything else appears to work correctly, at least, and yes I am using the nvidia-driver), and I don't have any other Linux binary-only games. I do have openarena, which...
Here are my system specs courtesy of dmesg:

Alright, so I finally bought Doom 3 the other day, quickly installed the games/linux-doom3 port, and copied over the necessary .pk4 files.
The only problem is, Doom3 fails to fully start up. I've read reports of this elsewhere on the Internet, yet I've found no viable solutions. Below, I have...
There is nothing wrong with the FreeBSD Project focusing on servers. Looking at the recent improvements that the team has made, we see lots of talk about SMP and the new scheduler. Performance improvements such as these are absolutely vital for FreeBSD to remain a top contender for the best...
Interesting, I remember reading this guy's post here a few days ago.
Later on, when I had come up with a good counter-argument, I couldn't find the thread. I'm glad it was dealt with.
I'm a little iffy on this idea, and here's why:
Once hardware is supported, it generally stays that way. This is not so for unsupported hardware. Being that there is a LOT of hardware that we still wish FreeBSD supports, this list could grow to an enormous size, and would thus be difficult to...
There are some good games - Doom, Quake III
and emulators - zsnes, snes9x, fceu, dosbox, mupen64plus;
but since these apps are also available for several other systems, I wouldn't suggest adding an entire subforum for them. They could be discussed just as well in the ports and development forums.
FreeBSD's own system documentation is great. If you already know a little about the general internals of Unix, then you might want to check out the manual pages for system calls and kernel interfaces.
I'm a fan of (t)csh, lynx, screen, mplayer (no video, though, since I can't use svgalib), emacs, vi, and ftp.
And of course, the standard shell syntax:
% cat file1 | grep statement > file2
...is extremely helpful.
Unfortunately, I was not able to attend MeetBSD, as much as I wanted to go. I heard from bsdtalk164 that iXsystems put on a rather smashing 15th anniversary party.§e
Did anyone here manage to attend?
Did the conference live up to the hype?
Let's see...
Although I'm an Emacs fan, I always use vi for editing system configs and short memos.
I've been using ftp quite a bit recently, also.
I have always loved the ports tools (portupgrade, portsnap, etc.).
The lynx or links browsers are also awesome on systems without X11...
I've always been more fond of forums than mailing lists.
I vote this the best move the project has made this year... okay, maybe a close second to 7.0-RELEASE, but it's nevertheless awesome.
