I was aware of that, and even suggested that to someone else last year (https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/57650/#post-341283)
Thanks for your suggestion anyway :-)
Hi guys,
I have successfully set up jails with ezjail in the past, but for some reason this time it's just not working (on 11.1). I'm sure it's my oversight here or there.
My jail does not have access with the outside world and cannot do a pkg update
Installing the suggest port doesn't work...
Good day - I've come across a weird problem with installing ports in a new jail. Using FreeBSD 11.1 with ezjail, updated with the latest patches.
You may suggest to install the package, but I want to change something in the defaults (MySQL support).
Host System
# uname -a
FreeBSD...
Thanks for the suggestions. I left it for a couple weeks, and tried again. Got it working now. Yeah.
I changed things slightly, and also put Redis in its own jail. Now all's working with 3 jails (web server, database, redis).
Will post a howto soon.
So, I had another go at updating the redis config files. Yes, I have PF set up and running the loopback on lo1. I've added the jail's IP (192.168.0.3) and the port to the configuration:
ee /usr/local/etc/redis.conf
# By default, if no "bind" configuration directive is specified, Redis listens...
Hello all,
Hope someone can help me solve my problem. I have two jails (ezjail) on a FreeBSD 11.1 host (UFS): one running Apache 2.4 (192.168.0.2) and the other one running MariaDB 10.2 (192.168.0.3). The Apache jail has PHP 7.2 and Nextcloud 12. Nextcloud is running fine. No problems there...
bsdvm.com is shutting down its hosting operations: "BSDvm is shutting down its VPS and cloud hosting and will transform into BSD and Linux hosting review service" (22/07/2017)
Should anybody else have the same problem in the future where Wordpress can't connect to the MySQL / MariaDB database server that's running in another jail, you need to use the correct jail name (as per ShelLuser 's comment) and you'll also need (well, in my case) to add the webserver's jail IP...
I installed Wordpress 4.8 with Apache 2.4 and MariaDB 10.2 on a FreeBSD 11 server (a vultr vps). All is working without issues, but there are no jails.
uname -a
FreeBSD domain1.com 11.0-RELEASE-p9 FreeBSD 11.0-RELEASE-p9
Now for extra security, I've set up 2 jails with ezjails. One for the...
Don't know if you got this resolved ericturgeon, but I had exactly the same issue. After some searching and trying I copied over my /etc/resolve.conf to /usr/jails/the_name_of_your_jail/etc/
That did the trick.
Most of us here have a pretty good idea what's going on in the FreeBSD community from news on this forum or things seen on social networks, but FreeBSD Central started a couple of weeks ago with weekly summaries of FreeBSD news.
This week the 5th news roundup was posted...

Porting GlusterFS to FreeBSD
Porting GlusterFS to FreeBSD is one of the funded GSoC 2013 projects. After the summer there's probably more news.
