If we are keeping score, I mentioned it even earlier in this thread :p
It is an interesting license, I think the Debian project has gotten confused here somewhere along the line. Possibly the decision committee meeting was too busy and noisy just before lunch. It really isn't discrimination...
Is there a reason it won't be updated to support 64-bit?
Is it also Intel-only? Or will it work on i.e 32-bit Armv6?
The only similar project I know of that isn't 64-bit clean is (also a language VM) the Inferno Dis VM for Limbo.
Ah, it is you. In that case, thank you for your work!
Typically packagers for Linux distros have less work to do compared to FreeBSD packagers. Less patches required to make it portable, etc.
So less for them to mess up basically.
I also think the change was of dubious benefit. Having an motd service is such a pointless addition of complexity for something so trivial.
Based on the man pages, I am inclined to believe it is so that the FreeBSD version can be appended onto the motd that gets generated rather than the user...
I do tend to agree. Actually, many people think of Debian as being one of the standard Linuxes but in many ways Debian does tend to have the most non-standard adapter scripts compared to others. If you look through many of the postinst scripts in the .deb files it is quite horrific. For just one...
Just a note. This hasn't changed. Guest Additions are closed-source and for a limited number of platforms so have never been available on FreeBSD.
Oops, I meant extension pack... Guest Additions are available.
OK, so it seems that we would need to use ${.IMPSRC}, ${.TARGET} rather than $<, $@ respectively. These variables have the location adjusted paths?
Seems to be a bit of a hack. I guess the mkdep stuff doesn't fully support the changing of directory.
I will have a play. Hopefully this is...
Admittedly, even with all the time I have spent with bmake over the years, I have never been able to work this one out.
As you mentioned, having an obj (or other OBJDIR) directory is handled in a special way of bmake first chdir into that directory and then executing the rules.
... which...
Pattern rules aren't supported by BSD's (more POSIX'ly correct) make. However you can certainly install gmake from ports.
With BSD make, what you might want to look at instead is suffix rules. Distilled as:
OBJ= \
main.o \
other.o
.SUFFIXES: .c .o
prog: ${OBJ}
${CC} -o$@ ${OBJ}...
That is actually great to hear. Multiple separate entities are almost always stronger.
So where I got this idea from (as I mentioned, murky) is actually compounded by a few things on the web:
1) Most outreach events are done together:
Joint webinar advertised on Klara's site.
Joint podcast...
To declare a list and iterate through it; something like:
somelist="foo bar baz"
for item in ${somelist}; do
echo "${item}"
done
You want it to loop infinitely?:
somelist="foo bar baz"
while true; do
for item in ${somelist}; do
echo "${item}"
done
done
Or maybe with a bit more...
Same.
Though if you drill down through all the layers of nonsense; both seem to basically be Docker "for Windows". Which means that "Windows Containers" are just a tiny amd64 Linux sat ontop of Hyper-V controlling minimal Windows VMs.
Basically this. What are we talking about when it comes to majority? 99.9999% or 99.99999%?
Since docker can't be used for non-Linux OSes, what runtime was it using out of interest?
The website. Specifically products and services.
Sure, let them twiddle with Linux for a bit. I wish them luck with the product. Much of their efforts might be lost in the noise of the Linux ecosystem though.
Its a bit murky but Klara is the commercial spinoff from iXsystems with more of the FreeBSD focus these days? Possibly not too much...
Perhaps Blender, PHP, OpenSSL, Apache and Python will "rewrite their software in Rust" and lead the way.
I promise, once they complete that task, I will do the same ;)
Do we have a deal grahamperrin or are you completely determined to continuously post an antisocial number of reddit links around the forums?
As a member on these forums your role is not to create some far reaching unity between all the different social network products. Observe the other users...
I beg of you in return. Please reduce the amount of links to reddit. If you do, we don't have a problem.
How does that sound? Do we have a deal grahamperrin ?
