sysrc name_enable="YES" versus service name enable

I'm responding to this old thread for posterity. A quick test tells me that service <name> enable also writes to /etc/rc.conf. % grep webcamd_enable /etc/rc.conf % % sudo service webcamd enable webcamd enabled in /etc/rc.conf % grep webcamd_enable /etc/rc.conf webcamd_enable="YES" A key...

    Key binding hell

At least screen and tmux each use a prefix key to limit key collisions with other applications. Some window managers like x11-wm/ratpoison, x11-wm/sdorfehs, and x11-wm/stumpwm, which were inspired by screen and tmux, do the same. It would be nice if other window managers like x11-wm/dwm...

Why is sendmail not delivering locally?

I corrected my post. I had run make all install restart. It's the same for all users on the host.

Why is sendmail not delivering locally?

I have four hosts in my local network, ala, bravo, phe, and ser. Everything under /etc/mail is the default on all the hosts. On two hosts, ala and phe, when I do mail localuser, sendmail attempts to deliver the mail to the MX host and on the other hosts, bravo and ser, the mail is delivered...

    Call for Foundation-supported Project Ideas

For this call for proposals, we only received a few applications and are considering one for funding. This was fewer responses than for past calls, but anecdotally it's recently been difficult to fill positions for skilled developers across the tech industry. Other than these responses, we do...

    Hardware compatibility list

Others have done well to describe why it's difficult these days to maintain such a list, but I also agree that we should try to do better. I poked around and a developer who knows a bit about storage says, If the hardware list can be edited after the 13.0 release, I will update it with this...

    Call for Foundation-supported Project Ideas

In this particular thread it's fine to make such requests. We'll be collecting all the requests in one place and some will be candidates for supported work. There is always more work than resources for funded work, but we'll still collect all requests so anyone interested in tackling a problem...

drhowarddrfine, could you elaborate? There is always room for improvement and we are open to constructive criticism, but the project completion rate seems reasonable. https://freebsdfoundation.org/our-work/projects/

Hello all, Emacs ports maintainers here. Over the past few years we have made some changes to the Emacs ports, which hopefully improve the user experience. For example, we now update editors/emacs-devel to the latest upstream commit about every two weeks and we eat our own dog food. Thanks...

Microphone does not work with Lenovo T530 under FreeBSD 12.1

This seems to be the same information that is shown at the bottom of the mixer output. I have tried different recording devices using mixer =rec blah, but without luck.

Microphone does not work with Lenovo T530 under FreeBSD 12.1

I certainly hope I am not forced to install Ubuntu, but it's her laptop, so she's the boss. mixer does not show a monitor device. mixer -f /dev/mixer1 does have a monitor device, but it's already set as the recording device. % mixer -f /dev/mixer1 Mixer rec is currently set to 37:37...

Microphone does not work with Lenovo T530 under FreeBSD 12.1

Like many others, $wife has to work from home these days, which means lots of video conferencing. But, she's unable to use her FreeBSD laptop for this, because her microphone doesn't work at all when running FreeBSD. The subject says 12.1, but I have tried off and on for years to get the mic...
