Hi!
I try to update my kdebase-3 recursively with portupgrade. It fails, because the port
net/samba-libsmbclient is marked as ignored. Thie package is a dependency from many, many others, so i am not able to deinstall it.
What can i do now? How to upgrade KDE3?
Thanks.
The new driver is so great. FreeBSD 7.3-STABLE AMD64, GeForce 9800 GT, driver version 195.36.24.
I've got a dual head monitor config. Glexcess demo plays perfect, quake3 and all KDE3 openGL screensavers work fine :) All the developers have done a great job.
Best regards
Thank you all for your suggestions.
I have a VGA interface on my TV. And as mentiond above, that was my first idea to get the screen with my dual head config to the TV, but i only get a black screen. I switched the resolution to 640x480 but again a black screen. The component video interface...
Hi!
I have a nvidia card with the nouvau driver, Dual Head on amd64 running. Now i want to get the TV-Out (Compontnent Video) working, so i can watch movies on my TV. Is this possible with nouvau and xrandr? I´ve got the 7 Pin interface on my video cards like in this picuture:
Does anyone...
When you use "portinstall" or "portupgrade" you can use the -P option. Then the system first try to find a precompiled port. If it is not available it will compile from source.
Hi!
On some new boards ACPI does not work with FreeBSD 7*. You may activate APM in you kernel, so you can use the old power management system. Add to following to your kernel config an recompile:
device apm
Shutdown with halt -p (as fender0107401 said)
I think the syntax changed from older to newer versions. Anyway, at least in version 7 you should add in loader.conf
snd_driver_load="YES"
That should load any available sound modul during startup.
Of course.
I have made a portupgrade to xorg-server-1.6.0
Then i installed to nouveau driver port: /usr/ports/x11-drivers/xf86-video-nouveau/
You also need xrandr-1.3.0 or at least 1.2
Here are the relevant parts from xorg.conf
Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "X.org Configured"...
Cool, i figured it out. nouveau with xrandr support does what i want. Now i have one huuuuuge virtual desktop with two monitors on one NVidia 9800. 1920x1080 and 1280x1024
Works well so far. Thanks for all replies.
Hi!
Thanks for the detailed information. The use of one single desktop with nv and randr is problematic in my case, because as you mentioned above this is usually for monitors with same resolutions. I have two different TFTs (17' und 23') so the single desktop is not a good solution. I need a...
Hi!
Interesting. Never heard about nouveau driver. Maybe i will give it a try and post my results. When nothing helps i have to wait for nvidia 64bit driver...... the never ending story ;)
Sorry to bring this thread up again, but is it right, (also according to this http://forums.freebsd.org/showthread.php?t=3038) that there is no way to get dual head view to work on a AMD64 system and a NVidia Card? Or is there any other driver that support it?
sysctl -a | grep hw.acpi.supported_sleep_state
says:
hw.acpi.supported_sleep_state: S1 S3 S4 S5
I am on prerelease:
FreeBSD 7.2-PRERELEASE
Thanks for the links. I will give it a try with the patch.
Hi !
Hmmm, ok, i have a current AMD64 system. So ACPI should exist. But without "device apm" in the Kernel config i have no power off after shutdown. With the APM option it works with an "init 0" or "halt -p"
So how can i make a power off (halt) with ACPI and without APM? Or do i...
