This thread looks like the issue is on its way to resolution but have a couple remarks for here:
1. I have read that 'rsync -a' could have performance issues with ZFS because when moving/copying files ZFS automatically checksums each block as it's transferred, for integrity. Since rsync -a is...
PMc
Thank you for the information.
Edit:
Is this 'ZFS problem' in kernel code and, by using it, has the fs structure been changed? I didn't see specific behavioral changes, only some new abilities. If the data structure is unchanged a 13.2-p10 BE is a reboot away.
Again, thanks.
This morning I got to watch my 13.3 (ZFS zroot)desktop take 14 minutes to rsync about 21GB of data to a locally attached UFS disk with a steady 85%-88% CPU usage. Both parameters double last week's typical run. I have a BE to "fall back to" but this morning's boot gave the attached message prior...
We have a critter that's been coming through our property at night and marking its turf. It's likely a fox but there's coyotes around too. What I'm looking for is a camera that can transmit across a CAT5 cable to a computer where I could save and view the file. I have hundreds of feet of CAT5...
I have used svn for a long time but thought I'd get with the program so I installed gitup. It mentions the change needed in gitup.conf, where 11.4 needs to be changed to whatever release you're after. Easy peasy and works out of the gate.
"release" : {
"repository" : "/src.git"...
I have half the move from svn to git working (src). It just worked, with a slight tweak of the release version number. Ports however don't "just work". Is there a boilerplate entry for gitup.conf for the current ports' state?
thx
No.
Since my machine *is* working and in a 12.2 BE I'm going to build kernel+world to see if I can flush out whatever change is causing this. I've tried to portdowngrade the fbsd12-kmod and DRMkmod but the compile fails with lots of unhappy Linux references so I think this has something to do...
I followed the three steps and got the four logos. They're on every console screen I go to. If I log in as root, hold Enter down to drive the prompt to the bottom and then do "clear" the prompt goes to the top but the logos remain, partially overwritten.
I remember seeing this long time back on a linux box, only with penguins, of course. I thought for a moment it might be a grub thing but it's been too long since I used Linux to remember. Could this have something to do with the conflict in /usr/src/UPDATING with linux DRM? It's at 20210202. I'm...
I'd like to know so I can get rid of that crap. (It being there also stops my cursor above the bottom of the screen by a distance equal to that taken up by the logos.) Jeez...
Of course not. :)
In the past I've had enormous trouble getting thunderbird to accept its own mail folders after even minor updates, so I haven't yet touched anything not "in system". Saw in /usr/src/UPDATING a conflict with Linux DRM but BEs let me take small steps. Not surprised a port update...
I just compiled 13.0 on my desktop, an HP 8500, i7-2600. It comes up fine but the video ignores resolution settings that work fine for 12.2-P6. (This is in a ZFS boot environment.) I know there's been a lot of changes but loader.conf vty is still vt so I don't know where to begin looking. The...
Sorry for my absence, there was some TV I wanted to watch.
The mail stored in one "folder" are saved in a single text file rather than one file for one email. That folder has ancillary files that are easily visible if one just looks at .thunderbird/ in a console. Likely pertaining to GUI...
Hello again.
I am on my off-and-on second day of trying to get a newly installed Thunderbird-78.7.1 to recognize the saved blah.default folder holding all my old locally saved mail from the prior 78.3.1 install. The internet is full of posts like this, with answers along the lines of "Works for...
I recently saw remarks on the FreeBSD website about the completion of a move from subversion to git. I figured I'd go with the times, installed devel/git and was dismayed when it pulled in over twenty additional ports. Is there a port that will do the job without such bloat? I haven't used git...
I have used portmaster for a very long time now and it has always worked well -- except in these periods where updates are touching complex software. No doubt there are newer solutions but even with those there will be things like this which will cause headaches:

True, but there are times of less-dullness. I suppose it doesn't matter if a particular port is or is not a train wreak if I never need it. I'll keep the quarterlies in mind since I no longer need the latest.
thx
