Why FreeBSD 14.0-RELEASE is approaching its End-of-Life date.

Nope, I patiently waited for release announcement, only after I read it I upgraded first of my FreeBSD boxes to 14.0-RELEASE, and I'm also seeing this message.

Synaptics TouchPad disconnects on ThinkPad T14

Hi, I am running stable/13 on ThinkPad T14 AMD laptop. Every few boots my touchpad gets disconnected. Rebooting brings it back. Xorg.0.log just states "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: device removed" (see attached file). I have also attached dmesg. I know this laptop is fairly new, that's why I...

`service jail stop` exits without stopping all jails

Hi, I am running ~20 jails on single host. I noticed service jail stop won't shut down all of them. It will stop a few of them, then silently exit, leaving other jails running. I need to repeat the command a few times in order to stop them all. Anyone else noticed this? Is there anything I can...

    searx installation guide

I submitted patches to FreeBSD Bugzilla for upgrade to 0.18.0, hopefully we get updated port soon: Bug 254608 - www/searx: update to 0.18.0 0.18.0 installs fine, needs only change to secret_key and works out of the box with just service searx start.

    searx installation guide

I am getting: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/local/lib/python3.7/site-packages/searx/webapp.py", line 50, in <module> from werkzeug.contrib.fixers import ProxyFix ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'werkzeug.contrib' Although www/py-werkzeug is installed: % pkg info -x...

    searx installation guide

I would like to run my searx instance using searx port. That is what ports are for, right? :) Port installs fine, but trying to start it does nothing. I guess it should at least throw something to console or to some logfile but it just silently does nothing.

Unable to copy a CD with K3B 19.08.0 under FreeBSD 12.0 release-p10 (Mate desktop)

Hi, After almost giving up on burning (mostly audio) CDs on FreeBSD, I figured it out. In my case, contrary to pkg-message, neither setuid flags nor vfs.usermount are needed. Device permissions are needed though, and for my unprivileged account, which is in operator group I solved them with...

Preserving Windows 10 partition whilst installing FreeBSD

I am triple-booting my ThinkPad T440 between Windows, FreeBSD and OpenBSD. I use rEFInd for native UEFI boot, you should be able to find enough info online to get you going. This sounds like your Windows 10 is part of Windows Domain, where policies are set via Domain GPOs. Most probably...

    CD/DVD GUI Burning on 12.0-RELEASE

Hi, I seem to have trouble configuring CD/DVD burning applications since 12.0-RELEASE. I am not completely new to problems with optical media burning in FreeBSD, and I remember how confusing it was for me many years ago. But once I figured out that pkg-messages are there for a reason, and...

nextcloudclient does not wait for gnome-keyring

Hi, I have been using deskutils/nextcloudclient with security/gnome-keyring in XFCE for some time without problems. On XFCE startup (no login manager, just startxfce4 --with-ck-launch, nextcloudclient would start automatically, bring up gnome-keyring's prompt, wait until I entered...

    ezjail, setfib and loopback connectivity

Well, I also bind my jails to lo1. I'm not quite sure what you mean by not having local loopback. In non-fib setup, my jail has two interfaces with addresses (as seen by ifconfig from within the jail) - 127.0.1.132 on lo1 and 193.53.106.132 on bce0. I am successfully serving apache from...

    ezjail, setfib and loopback connectivity

SirDice thank you for the tip, that's definitely _a_ solution, but not _the_ solution for me :) Should I conclude from your answer that cloned loopback interfaces in jails that use different fibs aren't possible, aren't preferred way to go, or just that you don't know? :)

    ezjail, setfib and loopback connectivity

Hi, I'm fairly familiar with ezjail, but quite a n00b to setfib concepts, hopefully someone can help me out. I have a problem with services on loopback interfaces in jails which use separate fib - they don't work for me. I've been configuring my ezjails as instructed in...

Xfce Thunar is slow when browsing automounted NFS shares

<bump> Am I the only forum member experiencing this? Any other Thunar users around who automount NFS shares?

Xfce Thunar is slow when browsing automounted NFS shares

Loading means every time I access any directory under /net, including /net. This includes not only double-clicking the folder to list its contents, but also clicking "up" or "back" buttons. Thunar is set to "View new folders using: Compact List View", and "Show thumbnails: Never".

Xfce Thunar is slow when browsing automounted NFS shares

Hi, I am using automount included in 11.0 base to automatically mount NFS share on local network. Loading content in /net directory, as well as all the subdirectories, takes at least 5 seconds on my laptop. Can something be done to speed this up? Thank you in advance. Edit: I just tried the...

    Other Alignment on hardware RAID

    Ok, let's simplify by not involving ZFS. Here's how FreeBSD sees RAID array: pacija@warden1:~ % diskinfo -v da0 da0 512 # sectorsize 899898718208 # mediasize in bytes (838G) 1757614684 # mediasize in sectors 1048576 # stripesize 643072 #...

    Other Alignment on hardware RAID

Hi, I have HP ProLiant DL320G5p, which comes with HP Smart Array E200 RAID controller, configured with RAID-5. I'd like to use it for hosting jails on ZFS partition. I partitioned it manually as follows: gpart destroy -F da0 gpart create -s gpt da0 gpart add -t freebsd-boot -a1m -s512k da0...

    gvfs-mount works, mount_smbfs doesn't

Hi, I am successfully accessing one particular Windows share using gvfs-mount. However, mounting the same share using mount_smbfs does not work. This particular share is on Windows 8.1, FreeBSD clients are 10-RELEASE-p7 amd64. I suspect the problem could be related to some tightened NTLM...
