Currently I get the follwing error when trying to install a port.
I think something is gone or corrupt. Any clues which part is missing?

Thanks for the feedback. I've already created two separated mirror pools.
The performance won't be really affected since it's for a home file server and I'm only writing at one mirror at the same time.
Yesterday I copied all my Images over the network and achieved speeds up to 100MB/s...
I'm currently converting my old PC to a file server.
The PC has four hard drives:
1. SATA 80GB: already installed FreeBSD with ZFS on this drive.
2. SATA 250GB
3. SATA 500GB
4. PATA 160GB: connected on the Asus motherboard (P5KR) through a JMicron controller.

What is the proper way to export a file system after the system is already running .
I want to export a manually mounted file system. So I guess I should adjust /etc/exports
after I have manually mounted (ntfs-3g) the external ntfs drive.
Currently I haven't been able to export this external...
The computer load is not just determined by the CPU alone, but also by the whole system.
Although the CPU is the heart of the computer, the same machine can be heavily loaded if under relative low CPU loads. For example a file operation can bring the hard disk under heavy load.
As you can see...
I have a SATA disk from a TV recorder. The drive looks like any normal SATA drive.
The problem is that it cannot be accessed. Upon boot I received an error looking like this:

ad0: TIMEOUT - READ_DMA48 retrying (1 retry left)...
I was trying to clean up all files in:
/var/db/freebsd-update/files
But received the following error:
Helena# rm *
/bin/rm: Argument list too long
Could this be the reason?
Helena# ls | wc -l

The high number of files?
I checked the manual of your motherboard and that's the way you should connect it, if you use two DIMMs of 2GB AND want to have dual channel mode.
The label Channel A and Channel B does not refer to what dual channel means.
If you have want to use three DIMMs:
From the Intel User's guide...
Thanks, I'll take a look into your suggestions.
Actually a couple years back I had something similar with Solaris and a Transcend USB stick. It turned out to be a Solaris issue.
I already did this (on a Linux box)
Even then I don't see how this is going to help.
In my opinion this is purely a hardware - kernel issue. There is something 'new'
in the hardware of this stick the USB layer of the operating system cannot cope with.
I just bought a new USB stick (Kingston Data traveler G3)
http://www.kingston.com/flash/dt_chart.asp
and received this error when hooking up. It does work under Linux 2.6.32.
My other Kingston USB sticks work fine.
Any thoughts?

I received the following error while trying to install 'octave-forge-signal'. I don't understand the error, since the installed version of 'optim' fulfills the dependency requirement noted in the error message.

This could be a 'power management' issue.
Do you still have this error if you replace the dead battery?
Performance wise there should be no issue if you remove the battery. I mean, it's not like in a car, when the engine is running and you would disconnect the battery: the output of the...
Thanks for the feedback. I ran OpenBSD on this machine for a while...until the hard disk failed. I replaced it with 'just another' IDE hard drive and guess what... It does not recognize the hard drive for some obscure reason. Anyway, it's been more than a month since I have been looking into it...
