Does ZFS reduce HDD available space?

ZFS reserves 1/64 of spool space for its metadata, so if your spool size is 2TB then ZFS datasets on it can use only 2*63/64=1.96875 TB.

reboot hang with 'All buffers synced' after freebsd-update FreeBSD9 to p3 on ZFS root

As I can see, patch for this problem includes several commits to the dozen of different files. So the task is much harder than patching one file. That is why I am still on the 8-SECURITY branch. :-\ Yes, it's a software-only problem, but I saw reports that this problem occurs on UFS-only...

    Did I screw up ports?

Yes, I usually update all my servers remotely, using make [build|install]world, not freebsd-update. You can load the geom_mirror module from loader.conf, but even it fails to load, the OS will start fine, you just have to rebuild a mirror using the gmirror rebuild command.

    Did I screw up ports?

Well, you can simply update your system to the 7.4-RELEASE.

    Did I screw up ports?

Sometimes it's just impossible. For example, we use on FreeBSD 6 server a very old billing system, which works fine, but can't be compiled on FreeBSD 8. Yeah, we will change it to another, more modern billing system eventually, but it will take a lot of time and efforts. As I can see, all the...

    Did I screw up ports?

The ports system still doesn't work on 6.x versions of FreeBSD. I know 6.x is EOL now, but a plenty of them still using in production, and broken ports system is a real PITA for its owners. :-(

cannot set ipc sysctl via loader.conf

I have tested it on my 8.2 server, and it doesn't work too. Hm... I think, it must be PR-rd. :-\ Because sysctl doesn't require quotes, only loader.conf.

cannot set ipc sysctl via loader.conf

All parameters in loader.conf must be quoted: kern.ipc.shmall="16857" kern.ipc.shmmax="69042176"

    AnyDATA ADU-500A USB-modem and a lot of "ubsa_cfg_request" errors

First of all, excuse my English. Well, i have an AnyDATA ADU-500A Rev.A USB-modem, and i'm going to use it for my handmade "VIA EPIA-based mobile router". I have installed latest 8.0-RC2 and configured ppp, and now everything works just fine, except that I got a lot of such messages on...
