Solved Sharing a physical interface between multiple jails?

I do not disagree on that type of thought process since I prefer it as well. That said, for me, when the learning curve on a technical subject is nearly vertical and information is scant I have found that management tools often can provide the clues in a conf file to clear out the obstacles...

Solved Sharing a physical interface between multiple jails?

This is not a direct answer to your question but MWL has a list of jail management tools here: https://mwl.io/archives/2291 It might help provide a solution quicker with minimal pain and suffering.

Introduction to FreeBSD 12.1 and 12.2 youtube videos

So it looks like you edited your initial response. Here is what was emailed to me: TIL: any empirical statement can make someone a youtube influencer. lol.

Introduction to FreeBSD 12.1 and 12.2 youtube videos

I wanted to share a couple of videos I found on youtube by DJ Ware about FreeBSD. Most will find the infomation presented to be basic but you can just tell this dude is old school, knows what he is talking about and his commentary is what I found enjoyable. View...

The expired leapseconds file is still a thing? why?

That makes sense because this was a bare metal install and I decided to poke on internal systems first.

The expired leapseconds file is still a thing? why?

https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/leapseconds-file-expired.56645/ I did what was recommended in the thread and install security/ca_root_nss followed by service ntpd fetch and it started working: ntpd[830]: ntpd 4.2.8p12-a (1): Starting ntpd[831]: leapsecond file...

"error resolving pool 0.freebsd.pool.ntp.org" at startup

This is a 12.0 vm install from .iso on vmware that has been updated to p6. ntpdate and ntpd are enabled in rc.conf but ntpd complains that it cannot resolve "0.freebsd.pool.ntp.org" during startup. However, when I manually stop and restart ntpd it is able to resolve it:named[611]: running...

BIND in BSD is a tradition worth keeping. Nothing says that this box is "core infrastructure" than BIND on BSD. Historically speaking, of course.

Xen-tools 4.11/4.12 from ports wants to install a ton of extra packages

Sanity check confirmed: how anyone is able to figure out dependencies for software is black box to me as well. The other thing that annoys me is the pre-selected options. Sometime it is obvious and other times I wonder how do they know that is the option that is needed. *sigh* I suppose if I...

I forgot that Docker is a company

If you don't play in the PaaS sandbox then, yeah, I can see how it would be easy to let that slip. :P

Winbind AD dropping every 10 hours

You indicate that winbind stops accepting connections. How do you know specifically it is not accepting connections? Or is it just an observation based only upon the symptom? I ask because, absent any data from a log, a packet capture via tcpdump might be able to provide better insights as to...

Install of FreeBSD 12 on Mac mini PowerPC

Props to you for trying. Sorry it did not work fully, but I would recommend that you donate the box to charity and go mow your grass. :P Honestly, the thing is ancient. Unless your cash flow is negative, you can get a reasonably priced used Dell Optiplex/Latitude (depending on your physical...

    Dovecot vs. Cyrus IMAP

Since you asked .. don't. :D Like you, I have messed with Dovecot/Cyrus and wasted hours and hours. ugh. I now use and recommend iRedMail. It is amazing! https://docs.iredmail.org/install.iredmail.on.freebsd.html Do yourself a favor and stand up a test box and give iRedMail a try before...

    Reaching default gateway from VLAN

As you may know, the intent of a virtual LAN is, generally speaking, to segment traffic. As an aside, I personally like to tag up my vLANs to the third octet because it makes it easier to step through when troubleshooting. Instead of vLAN 1, as in your example, it would be vLAN 180. I also...

FreeBSD as replacement for Android for devices?

Given the structure of your question leads me to believe that you have not complied an AOSP ROM directly from source. If you have, then you have somehow managed to abstract the vast complexities of AOSP down to a simple "What about FreeBSD .. " question. While it is a mildly interesting topic...

How Facebook tracks you on Android

The only good AOSP ROM is the one that you compile yourself for yourself on Nexus phones. ;) And one of the many good things about doing that is that it will specifically *not* have gapps.

Solved Simple config for new cable modem not working

Like I tell my kids, nothing you can say will make this better so you might as well just stop. :D If you are only using the box as a router then put a spare hard drive in it and install pfsense: https://www.pfsense.org I bet it will work for you out of the box.

    New 10TB drive wonkyness

To close out this thread .. I was not able to get the drive defibbed back to life so that data could be read. It sure is a narrow swim lane to work inside of but just couldn't get a win. Ended up getting a license for UFS Explorer and copying the data off without issue.
