Has anybody used recent versions of MATLAB on FreeBSD?

You're bang on the mark there Oko. People need to realise FreeBSD is not for desktop/research use and stop moulding it thus.

    FreeBSD 10.0-RELEASE + Xorg

Far out someone needs to get their act together, I submitted a bug report about the handbook giving irrelevant information and it was closed, but still the problem remains! https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_ ... ?id=189065 Just remove the bl**dy Desktop section from the handbook if you...

    recommended "better" PCI sound card

There doesn't seem to be much info on this chipset. OSS recognises it, but doesn't work. I understand that the Linux driver is seperate from the other CMedia drivers. Could this indicate it would be a much bigger job than just changing the current snd_cmi driver we have?

Can't install tk86 (or other) with pkgng

This. It is very confusing reading the handbook as it gives a lot of information about how to use the new package system, but no clues as to where the repositories are.

    recommended "better" PCI sound card

Necro-bump. Has anyone had any luck making the CMI 8786 chips work?

    Farewell FreeBSD!

Fair point about packages, I don't know enough about your other issues. I am getting sick of the FreeBSD camp's attitude of "no one even needs packages, deal with it". Good luck.

What shell do you think that is the best or what shell do you use?

Out of curiosity, what do you find bash offers that sh does not (for scripting)?

    PC-BSD/FreeBSD 9.1 PKGNG package repository

Every time someone asks about FreeBSD's packages on Freenode's #freebsd channel, I mention that page. Usually some angry person tells me that FreeBSD is not PCBSD, and noone cares about packages anyway. The was-to-be FreeBSD user normally then leaves in dismay. Good move publicising the...

No, I have not. I assume this is simply deleting /usr/obj?

    Error during make buildworld

I used su to change to root, then ran the same command again. Same problem. I did a fresh checkout when I moved everything to /usr/src. So it is fresh. I will delete it, check it out again and rebuild it as root just to be sure. Here is what I've done, for reference...

    Error during make buildworld

I have both STABLE and HEAD checked out. I use the latter to build Raspberry Pi images. But I will move this elsewhere and put my system's source at /usr/src just in case. Thanks for the heads up about the obsolete lines though. This error was the reason I tried building with clang. Before...

    Valid Moderation?

I *personally* think the picture is fine. But DutchDaemon summed it up well in his reply. With such a small group of regular posters on these forums it is easy to forget that the forums are not *ours* to run as we see fit. I think the posted link clears up the matter beyond any doubt; we...
