    ZFS ZFS native encryption

Thank you for the quick response. I'm using geli now but I would like to have it native so I'm not tied to a specific OS. 🤔 My use-case is a NAS so all I really need is to be able to stream videos on my LAN.Should still be OK for this, no ?

I understand that, but how else will I find out which to rebuild ?

    openssl-1.1.1f,1 conflicts with openssl111-1.1.1d

Number of packages to be removed: 185 So I have to basically keep track of the list and reinstall all ?

    openssl-1.1.1f,1 conflicts with openssl111-1.1.1d

my etc/make.conf has had openssl for some time (I don't know how long) but just changing the makefile doesn't actually help with my problem either way (even if I hadn't changed it already) And like I said I tried rebuilding ports that depend on openSSL and I get stuck because obviously openssl...

    openssl-1.1.1f,1 conflicts with openssl111-1.1.1d

How can I get around the error below? Is there a force install ? I tried doing a pkg remove on openssl111 but there are a TON of packages depending on it. I tried recompiling some packages that depend on it, but it didn't remove it from the list of dependencies when doing a pkg remove. ===>...

    Runaway tail process. sshguard ?

yes thank you. I had that all setup and configured already. Guess I just missed removing it from syslog

    Runaway tail process. sshguard ?

Looks like the issue may be that I have an entry in syslog.conf that may be old. Removed from syslog.conf and restarted syslogd and running sshguard just via service now to see if it helps

    Runaway tail process. sshguard ?

Looks like it's now a "fork bomb" with tail instead of syslogd: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=221233

    Runaway tail process. sshguard ?

I'm getting 100+ instances of tail -F -n 0 /var/log/auth.log /var/log/maillog happening and I'm having to kill the processes because it starts slowing down my system. I'm suspecting sshguard to be the cause of this. Is anyone else experiencing this issue ?

I love FreeBSD: I wish ports were up to date

I don't know the cause. I just know I keep running into ports that are old or take weeks/months to be updated. I'm speculating. There's no way I have time to update every single port I come across. If it's as simple as just tweaking the Makefile to another version, and doing a pull-request...

I love FreeBSD: I wish ports were up to date

What I mean is that we should make sure that it's not the process of updating a port in the current port systems that's the bottleneck. I referenced the ports manual before saying there's not even an obvious section on how to update a port when looking at the table of contents. The whole...

I love FreeBSD: I wish ports were up to date

The problem is that I keep coming across ports that take a long time to get updated, or have not been updated in a long time. Was it not clear in my first post ? I'm just fishing for everyone's opinion about what can be done to address this. I can't keep submitting PR's to every port I come...

Mainly trying to have a productive conversation about the current port system and how / if it can be improved.

I love FreeBSD: I wish ports were up to date

What I'm setting out to do is to see if there's a process problem. Volunteering and trying to find volunteers for a system that's possibly so cumbersome to use that itself is causing the problem wouldn't be the right solution. Maybe the whole idea of having one maintainer is flawed and a single...

I love FreeBSD: I wish ports were up to date

I used to be a portmaintainer for several years for multiple packages. However, I thought the process could be easier to do so. I tried emailing the maintainer for autojump but the email bounced so it looks like it should be taken over anyway. homebrew is also run by volunteers and their...
