Linux quit using HAL years ago. Which is the problem with HAL in FreeBSD, applications no longer speak it.

The Good, the Bash & the Ugly: "Shellshock" Bug

It's because memetics and a catchy name are more important than the actual threat level. You can thank Heartbleed for starting that trend.

    Killing Browser Fingerprinting

You can change the user agent string in Firefox in about:config by adding the setting general.useragent.override and setting the value to something like Chrome for Windows. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/37.0.2049.0 Safari/537.36

    Remember Nintendo Atari et al...

It was the first of the 5th generation consoles. So it was superior to the 32X and 3DO which were available when it was released, but matched by the Saturn and beaten by the N64 and PlayStation.

    Solved [Solved] Embarassed

Re: Embarassed It's because vim's vi-compatible mode doesn't let you. :set nocp will fix it, but you'll want to read the documentation to see what else it changes since I don't actually use vim.

    Fluxbox config almost fixed

If it looks like: You need to put exec startfluxbox in ~/.xinitrc (create one if it isn't there). Fluxbox should automatically be looking in the ~/.flulxbox directory for it's configuration files, which is where you seem to have put them. The only issue I see with the ~/.fluxbox/init file you...

    Your terminal's background colour?

Black text on a light background helps when you're working in brightly lit rooms. If you followed the other steps in the article, the white screen becomes annoyingly bright and hard on the eyes. Even if you do go with light backgrounds, you'll probably want something less harsh than pure white.

    systemd vs launchd

I wouldn't say there's significant interest in launchd, the efforts to port it to FreeBSD seem to be someone's side project. The original porting effort seemed to stagnate around 2005, and only recently has someone else picked up the torch. If you're interested in it, you'll probably find more...

Will FreeBSD merge with other BSDs?

I think Linus is one of the few things keeping Linux from being ripped to shreds by all of the big names wanting it for themselves. I'll have some popcorn ready the day he decides to hang it up.

*Creative writing* How would you deal with a "Talking dog".

I'd probably go with cybernetics, but that's just my kind of sci-fi. The dogs can communicate with each other because they're dogs. The implants can help them communicate remotely, but they have their own language they speak to each other (bonus points if you use Klingon). They can communicate...
